Boy dies on scene after dirt bike collides with pickup

A 14-year-old boy from Hartin Settlement, near Canterbury, has died following a two-vehicle collision in Meductic.

On Aug. 20, at approximately 12:56 p.m., members of the Western Valley Region RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a dirt bike at the intersection of Crow Hill Drive and Temple Road, Meductic.

The driver and sole occupant of the dirt bike, a 14-year-old boy, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

The RCMP believes the collision occurred when the driver of the dirt bike, travelling northbound on Crow Hill Drive, failed to stop at an intersection and collided with the truck travelling eastbound on Temple Road.

Members of the Meductic Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene.

Lakeland Ridges Mayor Greg Grant shared his appreciation for the fire department in a Facebook post.

“Our firefighters are often called upon to attend the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes imaginable. They do so with professionalism, courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others in their darkest moments,” said Grant.

A member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office also attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the boy’s exact cause of death.

Grant also shared his condolences for the boy’s family and loved ones.

“Today our hearts are with this young person’s family and all those who knew and loved them. May our community come together with compassion and support for one another as we mourn this heartbreaking loss,” said Grant.

The investigation is ongoing.
