Fire Marshal’s Office and Woodstock Fire Department trying to determine cause of blaze, which ‘severely damaged’ home

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office and Woodstock Fire Department Chief Harold McLellan are on the scene Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, trying to determine the cause of a blaze that “severely” damaged a Richmond Corner home on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

From the fire scene at 652 Route 555 in Richmond Corner Wednesday morning, McLellan described the house as “severely damaged,” adding he is unsure it can be restored.

He said the fire displaced a couple and two children in shared custody who live there part-time.

McLellan said it is too early to determine if the fire was suspicious, but the RCMP and Woodstock Fire Department secured the area until investigators complete their efforts.

The Woodstock Fire Department responded to the call at approximately 4 p.m., and the Debec Fire Department provided mutual aid.

McLellan said 22 Woodstock firefighters responded to the scene, noting the fire occurred when many of the volunteer firefighters finished their work day.

The RCMP, Ambulance N.B., and NB Power crews joined the firefighters at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told the River Valley Sun that someone heard an explosion before the fire began, but McLellan said that remains to be verified.
