Western N.B. sees surge in traffic violations during patrols

A recent RCMP traffic enforcement operation in Western New Brunswick has resulted in 147 tickets being issued and eight vehicles being towed.

Between June 26 and 28, members of the New Brunswick RCMP’s Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU) conducted a traffic enforcement operation in the Western region.

In total, 147 tickets were issued, including 104 for speeding, while eight vehicles were towed under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act, including two for speeding by more than 50 km/h over the posted limit. Police were also able to recover two stolen vehicles in the blitz.

“Despite continued enforcement, we’re still seeing far too many drivers exceeding the speed limit,” said Sgt. Ghislain David with the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit. “With the summer months ahead and more people on the roads, we’re urging everyone to slow down, follow the rules, and prioritize safety. A few extra minutes saved aren’t worth risking a life.”

In addition to the tickets and impounding of vehicles, 10 drivers had no current safety inspection, three drivers received a seven-day roadside suspension, and one was arrested for driving while their license was suspended.

The RCMP’s TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement on roadways throughout the province with the goals of improving road safety, educating motorists about traffic laws, and reducing serious injury and fatal collisions.

The public can also help keep dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to the police. If you see a driver who appears to be driving dangerously or is suspected of being impaired, call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in making New Brunswick roads safer.
