10th annual Big Bridge Fest on its way

Popular N.B. Day market event on the bridge returns

New Brunswick Day in Hartland calls for food trucks, vendors, live music, and more. From Friday, Aug. 1 to Monday, Aug. 4, the Big Bridge Fest will be back for its 10th year.

The three days leading up to New Brunswick Day will be full of activities that everyone can enjoy.

Friday, Aug. 1

Tug of War – Hartland Pavilion, beside the Hartland Baptist Church. Registration at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per team. Pull starts at 7 p.m. Men’s eight pullers and women’s six pullers divisions. The registration deadline is July 27. Contact Sam Crouse at (506) 324-0997.

Country Music Night – Coldstream Triple C Rec Centre, 7 to 9 p.m. Admission $5. Food is available for purchase. Sponsored by Sunset Auction & Sales Company.

Saturday, Aug. 2

Farm Market – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pavilion, beside the Hartland Baptist Church on Main Street.

Rolling Barrage – 9:50 a.m., Hartland Tourist Bureau. National motorcycle rally raising awareness for PTSD in the military and first responders. More than 100 bikes are expected.

Sunday, Aug. 3

Inter-Denominational Church Service – 10 a.m., Hartland Pavilion, hosted by the Ministerial Association. Music from local churches. Luncheon to follow at the Hartland Baptist Church Gym. Sponsored by Hartland ValuFoods.

Hartland Parade – 1:30 p.m., from Hartland Community School on Rockland Road to Walton’s Car Wash, lower Main Street. Theme: “Canada True North Strong and Free.” Categories include Business/Commercial, Theme-Related, Humorous and Overall. Fireworks – At dusk on the waterfront. Sponsored by the Hartland Fire Department.

Monday, Aug. 4

On the big day, the festivities will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m., culminating in a big bang at dusk.

Shirley Dickinson, one of the event coordinators, is excited to celebrate ten years of the Big Bridge Fest, emphasizing how the Covered Bridge put the heart in Hartland.

“The Covered Bridge is pride and joy,” said Dickinson.

Guided Nature Walk – 9 a.m.

Fine Arts Show & Sale – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beside Dr. Walter Chestnut Public Library in Hartland, with live art demonstrations

Historical Photo Display – All day, along the bridge

Antique Vehicle Exhibition – All day, Main Street

Official Welcome Ceremony – 11 a.m. at the library

Hole-in-One Contest – From 11 a.m., at the Covered Bridge Golf & Country Club, sponsored by Craig Manufacturing

Family & Children’s Activities

Children’s Crafts Workshop – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the library

Kids Zone – 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (behind the library)
– Sprinkler Colour Run with Hartland Fire Department
– Balloon artistry
– Face painting & henna tattoos
– Slime, cotton candy, popcorn, Beaver Tails

Entertainment Schedule – Dr. Walter Chestnut Public Library parking lot
Fiddlers – 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Line Dancers – 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
