DNR crew continues to work in area

A fire that broke out near the Carr Siding Road, off the Cape Road behind Newburg in Carleton County on Saturday, Sept. 20, is now contained.

The Woodstock Fire Department responded to the forest fire around 11 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters were unable to safely reach the fire as the tanker truck could not cross a small wooden bridge over a stream.

A Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildland firefighting crew was dispatched. Heavy equipment was brought in by DNR staff. It’s believed they were able to access the remote site via the ‘back side’ of the fire, coming from the Millville area. A helicopter also dropped water throughout the afternoon on Saturday. A team of 13 wildland firefighters remain on scene.

The Government of New Brunswick Fire Watch website lists the fire’s size at 7 hectares.

The entire province is under a burn ban. GNB’s Fire Watch reports that there are three fires listed as ‘out of control,’ and two listed as ‘contained’ around the province.
