Body discovered in Chapmanville, north of Glassville
An American woman missing in western New Brunswick since the summer has been found deceased.
On Wednesday, Nov. 26, the Western Valley Region RCMP issued a news release announcing the death of 57-year-old Gretchen Fitzpatrick, who was last seen on July 14, near the Woodstock/Houlton border crossing.
The Hyannis, Massachusetts, woman was reported missing on Sept. 11.
Western Valley Region RCMP Sgt. James Gallant said the body was found approximately two weeks ago after the RCMP got a tip from hunters who found clothing in a wooded area. The RCMP police dog was dispatched to the site, and her remains were located.
“It took a few weeks to identify the body,” said Sgt. Gallant, adding that the woman was found in the vicinity of where her car was discovered on Sept. 7, but still a fair distance away.
“There is no foul play suspected, and there is no immediate cause of death. Because of the circumstances, we may never know, but the investigation is ongoing,” Sgt. Gallant noted.
The original news release about her disappearance said Fitzpatrick suffered from a medical condition, which may have caused her to become disoriented.
“Our thoughts are with her family, friends and community at this time,” said Sgt. Gallant.
