Florenceville-Bristol event to share mission, welcome new members

Residents of the Saint John River Valley are invited to discover the benefits of confident communication and leadership at the River Valley Toastmasters Open House on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will take place in the Community Room at the R.G. “Bun” Veysey Active Living Centre, located at 40 McCain Street, Florenceville-Bristol.

Toastmasters International is a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals improve their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. River Valley Toastmasters has been bringing this experience to the local area for over 10 years, offering a welcoming space for personal and professional growth.

“We often joke that our local club is hiding in plain sight,” says Vice-President Education Marion Taylor. “The truth is that many people have been able to grow both professionally and personally by being members.”

Attendees of the Open House will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how Toastmasters helps build confidence in speaking and presenting.
  • See how communication skills can enhance career advancement and leadership opportunities.
  • Discover how participation can strengthen interpersonal skills and self-confidence.
  • Meet current members and hear real-life experiences of growth and success.
  • Experience a sample Toastmasters meeting in a friendly, no-pressure setting.

“Strong communication skills are essential in nearly every aspect of life,” says Vice-President Public Relations Jonathan Brillinger. “Whether you’re looking to advance in your career, become a more effective leader, or simply gain confidence in expressing your ideas, Toastmasters provides the tools and support to help you succeed.”

Membership in Toastmasters can benefit individuals professionally by improving presentation skills, interview confidence, and leadership abilities. On a personal level, members often find increased self-assurance, improved listening skills, and greater ease in social and community interactions.

The Open House is free to attend, and refreshments will be served. All are welcome—whether you are a seasoned speaker or someone who simply wants to feel more comfortable speaking up.
