A detailed engineering report will outline cause, steps to prevent similar spills
On Thursday, Sept. 24, 100 litres of hydraulic fluid spilled on the Grafton Bridge after a broken Hydraulic line on a Woodstock town dump truck leaked.
The spill caused a motorcyclist to slip and fall off the bike; no injuries were reported. The RCMP and Fire Department responded to the incident.
Alana Bowden-Ball, Communications Officer for the Town of Woodstock, said crews quickly handled the spill.
“Crews were immediately deployed to apply absorbent sand and crusher dust over the spill site. This was then quickly followed up with the street sweeper to sweep and collect the material, which was then transported to Fredericton for the appropriate disposal.”
Street sweepers will go over the area again to ensure the area is fully clean. Both the spill and containment procedure were reported to Environment Canada and the Department of Environment and Local Government.
As a precaution, the Director of Engineering and Municipal Services is preparing a detailed report that addresses the cause, recommended actions ro prevent similar situations, and an evaluation of the response.
