Young man recognized for work in promoting sustainable fishing
Theo Thompson is only approaching his 12th birthday, but his approach to fishing and conservation is getting him noticed. At the 2025 Destination Nackawic Bass Open in May, Thompson was recognized for his dedication to this cause and for being a good friend to our waterways.
Thompson and his dad, Ryan, have a Facebook page called “Theo’s Fishing Adventures.” His dad helps Theo maintain his social media presence, and they often post conservation and protection-related posts, including promoting the New Brunswick Invasive Species Council’s (NBISC) “Clean, Drain, Dry” initiative.
Nackawic-Millville Mayor Tim Fox said Theo has a passion for fishing and conservation that is uncommon in a young person his age.
“He is a wonderful young man, and I don’t know many people in the fishing world who don’t know who he is and how special he is,” said Fox.
Various organizations like NBISC, the Department of Fisheries & Oceans, the province’s Department of Natural Resources and Economic Development, New Brunswick Tourism, the N.B. Bass Tour, United Guides, Outfitters of N.B., and Destination Nackawic all collaborated to recognize Theo for his social media work to promote exemplary conservation and protection to all of his followers.
