Over 20 artists and creatives to host pARTicipate workshop festival
September is upon us, and that means it’s time for the pARTicipate festival!
“(pARTicipate is) a weekend of workshops … where people participate in workshops dealing with art and nature,” said event volunteer and artist Stephen Hutchings.
He went on to later clarify that he meant “arts plural because there … (is) a music component (which) in this case [is] Peter McLaughlin at Second Wind (doing a) Sip and Sing.”
Hutchings added that “there’s also culinary arts at … the On The Boardwalk (restaurant).”
At On The Boardwalk, workshop participants will help create a unique boneless chicken dish, Chicken Ballotine, in the restaurant’s kitchen with Chef Bouwe and then, together with a guest, sit down to eat their creation in the dining room!
The pARTicipate festival has proved to be an overwhelming success in the past, with ninety-five percent of the workshops being filled.
“This success is due in part to the quality of the workshops and the workshop leaders, as well as to the workshops affordability. The festival is generously supported by municipal, provincial, corporate, and private donations and grants.” said Hutchings.
One of the festival’s most unique and popular events is the steamroller print.
“We place the carved blocks on a large sheet of plywood, ink them up, place a large, four-foot by six-foot piece of paper on top, and then a ssteamroller rolls over that to create the print,” said Hutchings.
“Were the only ones to do this in our province,” continued Hutchings.
pARTticipate runs from Sept. 5 to 7.
