Town passes motion accepting Woodstock Driving Club safety plan
At a Town of Woodstock Special Meeting over the lunch hour today, Thursday, July 24, councillors unanimously passed a motion that will allow harness racing to resume at Connell Park Raceway.
The meeting, which was closed to the public to discuss a legal issue, reopened so councillors could pass a motion.
Woodstock Town Council unanimously accepted the Woodstock Driving Club’s safety plan and will allow harness racing to resume after Aug. 3.
One of Horse Racing New Brunswick’s most popular race nights takes place during Old Home Week, and will now go ahead, as planned, on Aug. 4.
The town previously cancelled race cards set for July 26 and Aug. 1.
Harness races were halted after a three-year-old died when he was struck by the starting gate attached to the pacing truck during the season opener at Connell Park Raceway on June 14. The death remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Force.
More details on the safety plan are expected to be outlined in a town news release later today.
