Dooryard Arts Festival returns with new additions

Festival celebrates 17 years of art and entertainment in Woodstock

The festival fun will fill downtown Woodstock from Wednesday, July 15, to Saturday, June 18, with music, comedy, and art.

Ross Kinney, the festival’s Program Director, says he is eager to be back in the festival’s environment.

“I’m excited to be able to attend as many as I can. But it’s really just the environment and being downtown with people and just seeing the community coming together and having a good time in the middle of summer is really like that’s what I’m excited for,” said Kinney.

Fan favourites like Seth Anderson, The Hypochondriacs, Leandra Gold, and James Mullinger will be back.

There will also be a couple of big Dooryard firsts, like musicians Joel Plaskett and Campbell & Johnson.

“We’re also super excited to have some sort of Dooryard debuts or people coming for the first time to Woodstock,” said Kinney.

This year will feature new additions, including more venues, such as the Connell House, which will feature a cello and guzheng performance, and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, where a pipe organ performance will be held.

The Dooryard comedy programming is expanding. Comedy headliner James Mullinger will be joined by additional acts at Cross Creek Brewing.

On Saturday, there will be an open-air studio on King Street. Artisans, such as woodworkers, letterpress artists, textile artists, and others, can bring their studios outdoors and demonstrate their craft to a live audience.

The last edition is the youth stage on Saturday morning. Kinney says there are around a dozen youth performers from ages 7 to 17.

“We are just really excited to have, like, a variety of programming that’s accessible to a variety of people and showcases, you know, we’re not just a music festival; we have a lot of art and craft and comedy and film. So we’re just excited to be able to kind of feature that variety of things,” said Kinney.
