SiRT assessing whether incident meets its criteria

A Hartland firefighter who was responding to a call on an all-terrain vehicle was injured when the machine he was driving collided with an RCMP vehicle that was responding to the same call. The accident occurred on Rockland Road on Sunday evening, May 17. The firefighter, who has not been identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident has been referred to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT).

SiRT is the civilian oversight agency in the Maritimes, responsible for the investigation of incidents resulting in serious injury or death to any person, sexual assault and domestic violence allegations and other significant public interest matters concerning the police.

The Western Valley RCMP says it will not release any details until SiRT completes its assessment.

A spokesperson for SiRT said they are currently reviewing the file to determine whether it meets their mandate, and if so, will issue a news release.
