Drama team to deliver three showings of the acclaimed musical on Nov. 28, 29, and 30
The Hartland Community School’s drama team will hit the stage during the last three days of November to present Matilda, the award-winning musical about students standing up for what’s right.
HCS teacher Caroline Fletcher-Allison said the students are working hard to put together the musical for this year’s stage performance.
The shows will hit the stage on Nov. 28 through 30 at 7 p.m. at HCS.
Fletcher-Allisonn said the talented company, featuring 35 students from Grade 5 to Grade 12, is led by Nevaeh Wade, an HCS Grade 8 student in the role of Matilda.
“The actors tell the classic tale of Matilda and her classmates banning together to stand up to their bully headmistress Miss Trunchbull, played by Grade 11 student Jesse Grass,” explained Fletcher-Allison.
Matilda uses her special powers to set all her friends and favourite teacher, Miss Honey, played by Grade 10 student Grace McCully, free from Miss Trunchbull’s chokey rule.
Fletcher-Allison said the musical delivers an uplifting story.
The story of Matilda is one of perseverance and standing up for what’s right even when it is hard,” she explained. “Packed with beautiful vocals and charming dance moves, this cast will surely bring you to your feet.”
The play is based on the 1988 novel Matilda by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Tickets for Matilda are on sale at the Hartland Community School office, ValuFoods, and Home Zone Electronics for $10.
