Golfers enjoy excellent conditions at Hartland club
The New Brunswick Senior Golf tour stopped at the Covered Bridge Golf Club in Hartland on Thursday, August 11. Ninety men aged 55 or older were in the Golf NB points tournament. Thirty home club members participated.
Covered Bridge member Joe Sullivan shot a two-under-par round of 70 to win. He is the second Covered Bridge member to succeed in the 10-year history of the tournament.
The NB Senior tour golfs throughout the province and acquires points based on their daily finish. The cumulative season points determine the year-end winners.
The Senior tournaments will continue until mid-September. The 90 golfers at the Hartland-based golf course are one of the highest totals in the province. In the past, the yearly event typically yielded 75 players.
Covered Bridge Pro Wade LaPage said that of the 90 players, 58 had a handicap of nine or less.
“The quality of this field was extremely competitive,” said LaPage. “The course conditions couldn’t be better right now, and the players were pleased with the course overall. It’s always nice to have players come from all around the province to an event like this and hear so much positive feedback.”
The Covered Bridge Golf and Country Club has undertaken several recent additions to the business. The upstairs deck is updated and expanded. Two new, high-end Pro Golf simulators are operational upstairs.
Ralph’s Canteen, located between the ninth and tenth holes, is up and running and a perfect place for a snack at the halfway point of a round.
The next major event will be the Maritime Cup during the third week of September.
