Nackawic Senior High School teacher Tracy Graham honoured

A teacher at Nackawic Senior High School (NSHS) has won the Dave Conlon Leader of Distinction Award from the Canadian Student Leadership Association.

Tracy Graham was nominated by the New Brunswick Student Leadership Association and received the award on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at a conference in Haliburton, Ontario.

Graham has been a staff advisor of the Student Leadership Group at NSHS for many years. The group of young leaders plans and organizes a variety of student activities throughout the school year, including theme weeks, assemblies, guest speakers, dances, and other special events.

Principal Sean Newlands said Graham has become heavily involved with the NB Student Leadership Association and the Canadian Student Leadership Association, and has taken NHS students to conferences around the province and across Canada.

“Tracy is great at motivating and engaging these students and instilling strong leadership skills in them,” said Newlands.

“She has also made it her mission to increase school spirit and enhance student engagement at NSHS,” he said.

Each year, educational professionals from schools across Canada are chosen for this award. These professionals have demonstrated excellence in leadership and an extraordinary commitment to developing student leadership in Canada.

Graham says being awarded the Dave Conlon Leaders of Distinction Award at the Canadian Student Leadership Conference was both humbling and deeply meaningful.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be the advisor to the Student Leadership Group at Nackawic Senior High School. Serving as the advisor, I have the opportunity to work with passionate, committed students who go above and beyond to create a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming community at NSHS,” said Graham.

Graham pointed out that she works with amazing people and has a great group of students who step up to lead activities in the school and community.

“I really want to emphasize that I am blessed to be part of the NSHS community,” said Graham.
