Death of Perth-Andover man announced by Department of Justice and Public Safety

An inmate in the custody of the provincial correctional system has died.

Corey Dean Bartlett, 56, of Perth-Andover, was an inmate at the Madawaska Regional Correctional Centre. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, he was transported and admitted to the Edmundston Regional Hospital after being seen by the correctional centre’s medical staff. He died on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Bartlett was charged with possession of child pornography and had pleaded guilty. He was set to be sentenced in Woodstock Provincial Court on Jan. 21. The charge was related to an incident on Feb. 7, 2017.  

Bartlett had been in custody since he waived his right to a bail hearing in September 2025.

The New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety announced his death in a news release on Friday, Jan. 23.

The department said “neither foul play nor self-harm is suspected.”

The news release noted that the RCMP and Coroner Services have been advised.
