Convention guest speaker MP Richard Bragdon calls Johnson ‘one of the hardest working MLAs in the province‘
On Saturday, Jan. 13, Margaret Johnson, the first-term MLA for Carleton-Victoria and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture, was acclaimed as the Progressive Conservative candidate for the upcoming provincial election.
MP Richard Bragdon, the guest speaker at the convention, described Johnson as “one of the hardest working MLAs in the province” and pointed to her relentless work and the fact that she is so accessible to her constituents.
No other individuals sought the nomination. The nomination was moved by Lottie Nye and seconded by Jane Staples. “I’ve never met anyone more dedicated or passionate,” said Staples, speaking of Johnson’s commitment to constituents.
“It is an absolute pleasure for me to represent Carleton-Victoria,” said Johnson in her acceptance speech.
After accepting the nomination, Johnson spoke of various projects she’s been working on for constituents.
To hearty applause, she saluted her husband, Derek Johnson, who is a frequent travelling companion of the MLA during visits around the riding.
Johnson becomes the first candidate from any political party to be nominated in Carleton-Victoria for the 2024 election. She was elected in 2020. Before serving in the legislature, Johnson was a long-time educator in the region and an active volunteer in her community.
