Macauley and Micah Martin reflect on early days in Carleton County as the duo checks off goals, chases new ones

The Martin Boys took home their first East Coast Music Award for Country Release of the Year on

“We were super stoked when we found out. We were actually driving from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay to get to the last show of the first leg of Tim Hicks’ tour, and someone who was in attendance messaged us. It was a great feeling,” said Macauley Martin, the oldest of the brothers.

The brothers, Macauley and Micah, have come a long way since performing around Carleton County as children. But they don’t neglect their past.

When asked what advice they would give to their younger selves, Micah emphasized the importance of perseverance.

“I would definitely tell them to keep practicing and getting better, even though you don’t want to go to lessons and it seems like a pain, to just keep doing it because it will pay off in the end,” said Micah.

The two aren’t stopping yet. Their goal at the moment is to expand their audience to the U.S., hoping it will take them further in their careers. Still, they emphasize that commercial success isn’t their main priority; staying true to who they are as artists is.

“One of the biggest goals right now is to break into the US market. Once you can do that, it changes your life substantially. But mostly our goals are just to keep true to ourselves, make the kind of music that we’re passionate about and that resonates with people,” said Micah.

The duo from Woodstock is currently on a Canada-wide tour opening for Tim Hicks. They will be in Fredericton on June 16, Moncton on June 20, and Saint John on June 21. This is their first time touring the country

“Tour is going great. The first leg routing was very insane, and it was exhausting. We basically slept for 18 hours straight when we got home. But it’s been a great experience, and we can’t wait to keep it going,” said Macauley.

Over the summer, The Martin Boys will be making appearances at some of Canada’s major festivals like Dauphin’s Countryfest and the Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

The artists also hinted to fans to stay tuned for new music in the near future.

More information about show dates is available on the official Martin Boys website.
