Mass NB Power outage likely caused by trees on lines

by | May 30, 2025

Initially, 14,000 customers were without power Wednesday night; six schools cancelled classes Thursday morning

Six Anglophone School District West schools were closed on Thursday, May 29, due to a power outage that began the night before.

The outage, which impacted 14,000 customers in parts of Carleton and Victoria counties, meant no school for students at Carleton North High School, Florenceville Middle School, Florenceville Elementary School, Bristol Elementary School, Centreville Community School, and Bath Community School.

By mid-morning Thursday, NB Power noted there were 6,000 customers without power, and by the end of the day, power was restored to all areas impacted by the outage.

Dominique Couture, the spokesperson for NB Power, says while the exact cause is still under investigation, initial reports suggest that a tree may have come into contact with power lines, triggering the disruption.
