Performance to celebrate St. David’s Presbyterian Church anniversary, homecoming
The southern gospel group Emmaus Road of Moncton will perform at St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Kirkland during their 149th anniversary and annual homecoming event on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m.
Emmaus Road has been performing for the last 20 years throughout the Maritimes and the State of Maine. The three-member group, comprising Roger Corey, Rhonda Cole, and Steve Elliott, combines their singing talents to bring award-winning gospel music to their audience.
“This will be entirely a gospel concert this year,” said Judy Cole, event organizer. “We hope to fill the pews and raise the rafters with beautiful music.”
Emmaus Road recorded their debut album, First Day in Heaven, in 2002. Since then, their music has earned recognition from the New Brunswick Gospel Hall of Fame, the Canadian Gospel Association and the East Coast Music Association (ECMA). In 2018, Emmaus Road received the Mercy Award and was inducted into the New Brunswick Gospel Music Hall of Fame for a lifetime contribution to gospel music.
Following their performance at St. David’s, families, friends and guests are invited to stay for refreshments at the Kirkland Community Hall.
St. David’s Presbyterian Church was named a provincial historic site in 2005. It was built by the community of Kirkland in the late 1800s, primarily by Scottish, Irish and English settlers who came to the area as pioneers. The established date of the church is 1876. The community of Kirkland is named after St. David’s, which was once referred to as the Scottish Kirk.
Located at 1589 Route 540 in Kirkland, St. David’s annual homecoming gathers friends and visitors from throughout New Brunswick, Ontario, and the State of Maine, serving as a fundraiser for the preservation of the historic site.
