Full agenda for Aug.17 meeting
Council approved a recommendation from the Capital Region Service Commission to hold a public hearing on Sept. 21, during the regular council meeting, regarding the proposed amendment to the zoning bylaws. The proposed amendment under consideration is a text amendment that would allow four units in low-density residential zones under the Nackawic Zoning By-Law.
It would also include the portions of the Dumfries, Prince William, and Central York Rural plans that are within the boundaries of the Nackawic-Millville Rural Community.
The text amendments would add policy language around climate change adaptation and mitigation to the existing land-use plans in the community.
In Central York County, Dumfries LSD and Prince William LSD, currently two units are allowed; four units are proposed. In the Town of Nackawic Zoning By-Law for the R-1 and RUR Zones, the current limit is one unit; the proposed maximum is four units.
For R-2 Zones, the by-law currently allows a maximum of 16 units; the proposed maximum is 40 units. In the Village of Millville, no changes are proposed to the number of units.
Mayor gives shout-out to Festival on the Bend organizers
Mayor Tim Fox said he was impressed with how well the Festival on the Bend went this year. He said it was well attended, that floats in the parade came from all over the community, and that the effort put into them didn’t go unnoticed.
“I want to give a shout-out to the Festival on the Bend Committee. They did a bang-up job of getting things together. We are very lucky to have them,” said Fox.
He went on to say he heard from someone who was visiting the area from Montreal that day. They told Fox that if they were still in good health in a couple of years, they wanted to move here.
“If someone wants to come here to visit and move here that says a lot,” said Fox.
The annual Festival on the Bend took place from Aug. 9 to 15.
Summer student paints mural
CAO Kathryn Clark wanted to give a shout-out to summer student Nevaeh Royal, who has been working on painting a mural on concrete barriers located on the arena grounds at the bottom of Landegger Drive.
She said it isn’t quite done, as Royal wants to add a few more touches.
Clark said Royal came up with the design and is very talented.
Mayor Fox said Royal is doing a great job. Royal studies Jewellery and Metal Arts at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.
Meeting date to be set for ongoing ATV issues
RCMP and Quad NB have reached out to schedule a meeting to discuss ongoing ATV issues. A date hasn’t been set yet. In the meantime, CAO Clark said larger signs showing no ATV access have now been installed to replace the old, smaller signs.
