Nov. 3 agenda includes zoning amendment and new fire equipment

Council heard a presentation from Malinda Parks from the Capital Region Service Commission regarding accessory dwelling and secondary suites.

The community is seeking to update the existing rural plans. Currently, there are five plans in areas that fall under the Nackawic-Millville Rural Community. These five plans are: the Nackawic Zoning By-Law, the Millville Rural Plan, and portions of the Dumfries, Prince William, and Central York Rural Plans that fall within the boundaries of the Nackawic-Millville Rural Community.

This amendment would permit accessory dwelling units (also known as garden suites) and secondary suites (such as in-law or rental suites) as secondary uses to a single detached dwelling. The purpose of the amendment is also to remove the temporary and family aspects of accessory dwelling units that are currently in effect in certain areas.

The Capital Region Service Commission (CRSC) recommends that the Council of Nackawic-Millville Rural Community proceed with the process for the proposed text amendment. Additionally, the council has set a public hearing for Dec. 1, during the regular meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at the council chambers in the Nackawic-Millville municipal office, for consideration of objections or support to the proposed by-law.

Equipment purchases for the North York Fire Department

The council approved a request by the North York Fire Department (NYFD) to purchase hoses (two 40” x 50’ hoses and ten 40” x 100’ hoses) from Safety Source Fire at a total cost of $16,339.20.

Council also approved a request from NYFD to purchase a SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and cylinder from Safety Source Fire at a total cost of $12,545.35

Council then approved a request to purchase Holmatro Air Bags from Safety Source Fire at a total cost of $23,023.00.

In an email from North York Fire Chief Justin McGuigan, he stated that the bags are an essential piece of rescue equipment for circumstances where no other solution will work. He said these bags have been part of his long-term plan for several years.

CAO, Kathryn Clark, noted that all of these requests were within their budget.
