Storage buildings for town garbage trucks
Council passed a motion to have Vermont Construction construct two buildings at a total cost of $35,871.25. Each building will measure 35’ x 12’ x 12’ and will be built before winter to store the two town garbage trucks.
Weekly disposal of one large garbage item in the wards outside of Nackawic
Beginning the week of Oct. 20, residents in the wards of Southampton, Temperance Vale, Millville, Dumfries, and Upper Queensbury who have their garbage collected by the municipality will be able to dispose of one large item, in addition to their regular garbage, each week.
Garbage pick-up will not include any white goods (such as washers, dryers, fridges, stoves, or air conditioners). These items will not be collected, but the homeowner can bring them to the scrap metal bin located at the Public Works Garage (44 Pinder Road) during the hours of 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Fixes proposed for the safety issue on Landegger/Route 105
A meeting held on Sept. 17 discussed the safety issue at the top of Landegger and Route 105. It was decided that immediate actions, such as installing an additional sign and painting arrows in the turning lane, will be taken. The landscaping on Landegger will be extended approximately 20 feet up towards the corner to eliminate the possibility of entering from the turning lane.
Community Wildfire Resiliency Planning
Council passed a motion to enter into a contract with ACFOR for a cost of $56,000 plus HST to obtain a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan. A provincial grant will cover this cost. The goal of this plan is to provide a level of service to residents and businesses and to promote growth through lower operating costs and greater knowledge of Fire Smart, EMO Measures, and Disaster Preparedness.
Dumfries Fire Hall construction
Construction continues on the new Dumfries Fire Hall. The walls were scheduled to be erected on Oct. 1, and the rafters were set to be installed a week later.
