Candidate papers accepted until April 10
The nomination period begins on Monday, March 23, for local government, rural district advisory committee and district education council elections scheduled for Monday, May 11, across New Brunswick.
“These important positions allow individuals to give back to the communities in which they live, work and, in many cases, raise their families in a very tangible and meaningful way,” said New Brunswick Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth. “Democracy is better served when electors have the option of choosing from a diverse field of candidates.”
New Brunswickers will be voting for candidates in 77 local governments, 12 rural district advisory committees and 68 district education council subdistricts.
With local returning offices opening to the public on Monday, Poffenroth encourages candidates to submit their nomination papers well before the 2 p.m. deadline on Friday, April 10.
“Due to the complexity of the ballots used during these local government elections, voting at returning offices will only be possible once printed ballots become available on Monday, April 20,” said Poffenroth. “Unlike provincial elections, write-in ballots are not possible.”
