The RCMP arrested a 24-year-old Coldstream man following a shooting incident and an Alert Ready in Cloverdale on Aug. 9.
In an Aug. 9 release, the RCMP said West District RCMP officers responded at approximately 2:48 p.m. to a report of shots fired near a construction site in Cloverdale.
Police immediately attended the scene and began investigating.
At 4:59 p.m., police issued an Alert Ready message for the Cloverdale region, East of Hartland, advising residents in the area to stay inside and lock their doors, the RCMP explained in the release.
At 5:16 p.m., police were able to locate and arrest the individual without further incident. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., they issued an updated Alert Ready message advising the incident’s conclusion and that residents could resume normal activities.
“We want to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this incident,” says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. “We would also like to recognize the excellent police work by all members involved, which led to a quick and safe resolution to this situation.
The original Alert Ready advised the public of the ongoing hunt for an armed man in the Cloverdale area.
“The RCMP is searching for a man reported to be carrying a firearm with intent to use it in the area of Cloverdale,” the emergency alert stated.
The Alert Ready identified the man in question, noted he was carrying a camouflaged-coloured long gun, described what he was wearing and that he was riding a red ATV.
They issued the Alert Ready announcing the end of the emergency less than a half hour later.
