RCMP Major Crime Unit concludes investigation

In an updated news release issued Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Western Valley Region RCMP said their investigation into two elderly men’s deaths had been concluded.

“The investigation has determined that one of the men’s deaths was the result of a homicide, and that the other’s was the result of a self-inflicted wound,” the release noted.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, RCMP officers responded to a report of two deaths on Knowlesville Road at 9:49 p.m.

The bodies of two men, brothers, aged 68 and 74, were found at the scene.

The River Valley Sun has chosen not to publish the brothers’ names out of respect for the families involved.

“A firearm was recovered at the scene,” the release noted. “Due to the circumstances surrounding the deaths, no criminal charges will be laid.”

The updated release noted that the officers’ thoughts were with the deceased’s family, friends, and community.
