Police ask residents of Cloverdale to shelter in place as they search for armed man
The RCMP issued an emergency alert around 5 p.m. to residents in the Cloverdale area, east of Hartland, asking them to shelter in place as police searched for an armed man. They ended the operation less than a half-hour later.
The alert issued minutes before 5 p.m. stated they were searching for a known man.
“The RCMP is searching for a man reported to be carrying a firearm with intent to use it in the area of Cloverdale,” the emergency alert stated.
They identified the man in question by name and age, provided a description and noted he was carrying a long gun and driving an ATV in the first alert.
Police asked everyone to shelter in place and avoid the area.
The RCMP issued a second release at 5:24 p.m., stating they ended the operation in the area, noting residents could “exit their homes and return to normal activities.”
The second alert advised residents that police would remain in the area as part of the investigation.
