RCMP make arrest related to death of Sussex men who died in Hay Settlement

One man to appear in court in August

On June 16, 2025, the West District RCMP arrested a 37-year-old from Sussex in connection with the death of two men who died in a 2024 car accident near Hay Settlement, outside of Woodstock.

The individual has since been released and will appear in Woodstock Provincial Court on August 19, 2025.

On Sept. 26, 2024, members of the Western Valley RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 near Hay Settlement. Two individuals, a 43-year-old and a 45-year-old man, both from Sussex, died.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle, travelling eastbound, lost control and drove into the ditch. The first individual, the 45-year-old, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The second individual, the 43-year-old, was transported to the hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

At the time, police believed a third person was in the vehicle when it crashed. RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Ambulance New Brunswick members attended the scene the day of the accident.
