Sanctuary House to host Purple Light Night

Nov. 1 event at Connell House to bring awareness to gender-based violence

Sanctuary House, the Woodstock women’s shelter that serves the Upper River Valley, is hosting a free awareness event at Historic Connell House on Saturday, Nov. 1, starting at 6:30.

Purple Light Night is an evening to remember lives lost to domestic violence. It’s also a chance for the greater community to support survivors and bring awareness to the ongoing impact of gender-based violence.

The evening will feature a performance by The Chanterelles and a moving personal story shared by Sarah Sherman.

“For the past four years, this special night has provided a time for our community to come together — to reflect, remember, and stand in solidarity with those impacted by domestic and intimate partner violence,” a Sanctuary House Facebook post noted. “Purple Light Night marks the official start of a month-long campaign to shine a light on this important issue.”

November Purple Light Nights returns

Starting Nov. 1, people can light up their communities in purple to mark the start of the month-long Purple Light Nights campaign.

Sanctuary House is asking residents of the Upper River Valley to join them at their kickoff event at Connell House and to show support by keeping purple lights glowing in their homes and businesses throughout the month.
