Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony is considered one of history’s most important pieces

Symphony New Brunswick will take the stage at the McCain Community Theatre in the Woodstock High School on Friday, May 17, to deliver Echoes of Beethoven.

Under the direction of Mélanie Léonard, Symphony N.B. will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) Op. 55, and Schmidt’s River Run.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at the AYR Motor Centre or by calling (506) 325-4671.

The Woodstock visit is part of the symphony’s 40th anniversary Bravo tour.

Music historians consider Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony one of history’s most important pieces. They explain that it pushes expressiveness far beyond the classical symphonies of Haydn and Mozart.

However, the symphony confused 18th-century critics because it was starkly different from what they had heard from Haydn and Mozart.

Beethoven initially dedicated the symphony to Napoleon but recanted after Napoleon declared himself emperor.
