Cell phones, televisions, and radio stations to test system at 10:55 a.m.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, a national test of the Alert Ready system will take place at 10:55 a.m. At that time, a distinctive alert tone will be heard on radios, televisions, and cell phones across the Atlantic provinces.
Alert Ready is Canada’s emergency alerting system.
Please do not call 911 for information about the test. Using 911 for non-emergency calls could delay help for people experiencing real emergencies.
Alternate formats of the alerts may be issued. However, only some alerting authorities or devices can produce or receive these formats. Broadcasters may use text-to-speech software to create an audio version of an alert message.
If your device supports this feature, emergency alerts may be read to the recipient. The vibration feature that accompanies emergency alerts is available to alert Canadians. Please get in touch with your wireless provider for more services that may be available to you.
