Woodstock veterans group to honour military and police peacekeepers
On Saturday, Aug. 9, Woodstock Unit #95 ANAVETS will be marking the annual Canadian Peacekeepers Day at 10 a.m. in front of the Carleton County Courthouse.
A wreath will be laid and the United Nations flag raised during a brief ceremony honouring Canadian service members who have served in UN peacekeeping missions.
The event will pay tribute to those who have died while serving abroad, including members of the Canadian Armed Forces and police officers from municipal, provincial and federal agencies.
Since 1989, more than 4,000 Canadian police officers have participated in over 60 peacekeeping operations. Some lost their lives while working to support international stability and security.
