Western New Brunswick expecting heavy rain as Tropical Storm Debby makes her way north

by | Aug 9, 2024

Environment Canada says 30 to 40 mm of rain expected throughout the region

Heavy rain is expected throughout most of New Brunswick beginning Friday morning and continuing into late Saturday.

The wet weather is the remnants of tropical storm Debby as it makes its way up the eastern seaboard.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for most of New Brunswick, except for the most eastern portion of the province. Areas of heavy rain associated with Debby are expected to fall until midnight Saturday, with embedded thundershowers possibly increasing rainfall amounts in some areas.

Jennifer Smith is a national warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.

She says people need to be ‘weather aware’ and cautious as heavy rains produce pooling on the roads.

Tropical Storm Debby is being blamed for six deaths in the U.S.
