Canterbury Days provides a perfect end to the summer season with a nod to approaching Halloween
Young and old, kids and parents alike, were enthralled by the incredibly intricate and creative Halloween-themed floats that Canterbury and other Lakeland Ridges residents created for Canterbury Days on Sept. 21.
Among them were designs based on classic horror movie characters such as Chuckie, Leatherface, and Michael Myers, as well as more child-friendly ones inspired by fairy tales or, as in the case of one float, the band Kiss, proving that you’re never too old to rock.
Tanya Cloutier, president of the Ward 4 Recreation Committee, said more than 30 vehicles participated in the parade.
An estimated crowd of more than 500 people turned out for the parade and events at the community park, which included a vendor’s market, music and family activities.
Crowds, including many children, lined Main Street through Canterbury, cheering the entries and picking up the candy tossed from the floats.
The Canterbury Fire Department volunteered extensively during Canterbury Day, including using its new fire simulation trailer to educate children at the event.
The simulator mimicked the sensations of a real fire by flooding the trailer with smoke and bright flashes of light.
Over 17 vendors, including businesses such as Food truck IBBQ4U, craftspeople Threads and Things, and J’s Mini Doughnuts, set up at a nearby park.
Musician Steve Hartfield also attended the market, filling the air with melodious music throughout the day.
Events like Canterbury Days give us “pride in where we live,” said Tanya Cloutier
Cloutier described the 2014 Canterbury Day as one of the best since the event began in 2017.
