Victim remains in hospital after she was attacked in her home

Destiny Dawn Innis, 23, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 23 for a bail hearing.

Woodstock Police laid a new charge of attempted murder. Her bail hearing was adjourned until Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Judge Henrik Tonning read the attempted murder charge to Innis, noting it accused her of stabbing and attempting to suffocate a female victim.

Family members in the courtroom became emotional and left the court after her appearance.

Innis was arrested in connection with a violent altercation at a residence on Houlton Road around 9 p.m. on Oct. 20. A woman was taken to the Upper River Valley hospital and later transported to the Saint John Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The court heard that the attempted murder charge replaced the original charge of assault causing bodily harm. Innis remains in custody in Miramichi.
