Eighteen-year-old faces several charges, including assault, death threats

The Woodstock Police Force reported the arrest of an 18-year-old man after a foot chase through the woods in the Houlton Street area.

In a media release, the WPF stated officers responded to a call regarding an unwanted individual at noon on July 28.

Upon arrival, a uniformed patrol officer identified a male matching the description of an individual wanted for previous criminal offences.

As the officer attempted to apprehend the suspect, the individual fled the scene on a bicycle and entered a nearby wooded area. The officer pursued the suspect on foot and successfully apprehended him.

During the chase, the suspect was observed discarding various items. Following his arrest, the suspect was transported to the Woodstock Police Force office and held pending a court hearing.

Subsequent searches of the wooded area, with the assistance of the RCMP K9 unit, recovered the discarded items.

The items retrieved included a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, homemade brass knuckles, and a mask. An 18-year-old male has been charged with assault, break-and-enter, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, threatening death or bodily harm, and breaching a court order.

The release said the force expects to lay additional charges as the Woodstock Police Street Crime Unit continues the investigation.

Police ask anyone with information about this or any other crime to contact the Woodstock Police Force at 506-325-4601, Crime Stoppers at 1-866-222-TIPS, or Crime Stoppers online at www.crimenb.ca.
