Woodstock residents with outdoor cameras encouraged to register to help in solving local crimes

The Woodstock Police Force (WPF) announced a new initiative during the Nov. 25 town council meeting. Chief Mark Bennett and Sgt. Shaun Kimble briefed the mayor and councillors on their new strategy to create a database of property cameras in 2026.

The no-cost initiative is a partnership with the Forest Green agency that enables the WPF to create a database of cameras across the municipality. Knowing where cameras are located and what direction they face could help police save valuable time and resources when investigating local crimes.

“Instead of us having to go and get thumb drives and DVDs at a cost, they can just upload it right to our database,”  explained Chief Bennett.

The Woodstock Police are asking anyone in the town with outdoor cameras, whether at a business or a residence, to please register them through the link on the Woodstock Police Force website. They are asking businesses and homeowners to upload a screenshot showing which direction your camera is facing.
