Victim being treated at Fredericton hospital
The Woodstock Police Force is investigating a serious assault that happened Sunday night, Dec. 7.
In a news release, the force said the incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. near the Knights of Columbus Hall on Charles Street.
Officers responded to the area following a report of an injured individual and located an adult male victim. The release said the man was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries and later transferred to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.
Initial information suggesting that the victim may have suffered a gunshot wound was false. Investigators have found no evidence to indicate gun violence. The nature of the victim’s injuries remains under investigation.
The Woodstock Police Force Criminal Investigation Section is investigating and, in the news release, said they expected to make an arrest soon.
Police believe this was a targeted assault, and there is no risk to the general public.
The Woodstock Police Force is asking residents to come forward if they have any information about the incident or witnessed the assault.
