Close to 600 vehicles stopped during Thanksgiving weekend
The Woodstock Police Force (WPF), in coordination with law enforcement agencies across Canada, concluded its participation in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
In a social media post, the WPF said the annual traffic safety initiative targets the “Big 4 high-risk driving behaviours: impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and seatbelt compliance.”
The media release noted that, nationally, motor vehicle collisions claim between 1,800 and 2,000 lives on Canadian roadways and cause about 100,000 injuries every year. Despite its smaller population, New Brunswick currently holds the highest per capita road fatality rate in Canada, underscoring the vital importance of local enforcement campaigns.
During the holiday weekend blitz, Woodstock Police Force officers intercepted hundreds of motorists to educate and enforce road safety rules.
• Vehicles stopped – 578
• Provincial Offence tickets issued – 6
• Impaired driving / Immediate Roadside Suspensions (IRS) – 1
• Fail to stop for police – 2
• Other Criminal Code charges (firearms and probation violations) – 6
“Woodstock Police Force remains committed to road safety for all users,” the social media post said. “Whether you are travelling across town or on a major highway, please remember to monitor your speed, buckle up, leave ample space, and always drive according to the weather conditions. Most importantly, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
