Plea delayed on attempted murder charge

Destiny Dawn Innis, 23, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on March 16 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on a charge of attempted murder.  She was scheduled to enter a plea on Feb. 23 when the matter was adjourned for further disclosure of police evidence from the Crown.

Innis was charged by Woodstock Police following a violent altercation at a downtown residence on Oct. 20, 2024, when a 74-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed in her home.

Following a bail hearing, Innis was released from custody under house arrest at a residence at Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation). She was required to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle and must have no contact with the victim. She had no prior criminal record.

On Feb. 23, the court heard Innis had made an application to have her release order varied and her request was granted by the Crown.

The victim was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital and later transferred to the Saint John Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Woodstock Police, the Woodstock Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were called to her home on Houlton Street around 9 p.m.

Accident leads to charges

Desmon Eugene Longstaff, 23, of Back Greenfield Road, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on one charge laid by Woodstock Police.

Longstaff pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm stemming from an accident in Woodstock on April 19, 2024.The court heard there were three passengers in the vehicle. Two other charges of refusing a breathalyzer demand and refusing to provide a blood sample were withdrawn by the Crown.

Plead guilty to impaired driving

Cindy Darlene Nicholson, 51, of Upper Woodstock, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. after changing her plea to guilty on a charge of impaired driving.

Nicholson was charged by Woodstock Police in connection with an incident on Oct. 16, 2023, in Woodstock. The court heard the Crown would be seeking a custodial sentence of 120 days based on her record of prior convictions for impaired driving.

Held for bail hearing

Jeffrey Richard Bull, 45, of Newburg, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Feb. 23 after being arrested on a charge of breaching his release order (curfew).

Bull was charged by the RCMP in connection with an incident on Feb. 14 in Newburg. He was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m.

He will also stand trial on April 13 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to two other charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Bull was charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation concerning an incident on Sept. 8, 2024, at 2 a.m. when a man suffered a broken elbow after being struck by a bat on St. James Street in Woodstock.

Bull was also charged by RCMP with breaking into a dwelling house and breach of probation stemming from an incident on March 16, 2025, at Bulls Creek. He pleaded not guilty. He appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing and was released with conditions.

Fine and probation

Dana Newell, 38, of Perth-Andover, appeared for sentencing in provincial court on Feb. 23 after changing his plea to guilty on one firearm charge laid by RCMP. He was handed a $750 fine and was placed on 12 months of probation.

Newell pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm concerning an incident on May 27, 2025, in Perth-Andover. Several other charges were withdrawn.  Newell had a prior criminal record. The sawed-off shotgun was forfeited to the Crown.

In custody awaiting plea

Nicholas Hamilton, 31, of Richmond Corner, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 23 to answer charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until March 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Hamilton was denied bail on Jan. 15. He was charged by the RCMP with driving while prohibited, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it, possession of a firearm without a licence (a shotgun and rifle), transporting firearms in a careless manner, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm. The charges were laid following a police chase on Jan. 13 in Lindsay when a spike belt was used to stop a speeding half-ton truck.

Plea adjourned

Nathan Aaron Sewell, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned until March 10 at 9:30 a.m. to allow Defence Counsel Brent Dickinson more time to review the disclosure from the Crown.

Sewell appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 15, 2025, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including a curfew and the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He was charged with breaching an undertaking (not be driving any vehicle) and indictable possession of a stolen ATV on Dec. 7, 2025, at Wilmot. He has a prior criminal record.

Not-guilty plea on four charges

Emily McSheffrey, 28, of Waterville, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 via teleconference and pleaded not guilty to four charges laid by the RCMP. Her trial date was set for March 17, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

McSheffrey appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 5 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions to a rehab facility in Shediac.

She was charged with breaking into a dwelling house, mischief causing property damage to a door, two counts of uttering threats and assault involving a male victim in connection with an incident on Jan. 26 at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). She was ordered to have no contact with the complainant. She has a prior criminal record.

Returning for trial

Kenneth Lake, 39, of Lansdowne, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was set for Feb. 3, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Lake appeared in custody via video for a bail hearing on Feb. 5 and was released with conditions. He was charged with breaching a no-contact order on Feb. 2 in Lansdowne. At an earlier court appearance, he was charged with assaulting a female victim concerning an incident on Nov. 28, 2025, in Lansdowne.

Fined $1,100 for driving offence

Justin Demerchant, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited. He was fined $1,100 and prohibited from driving for another year.

Demerchant was charged by the RCMP following an incident on May 17, 2023, in Florenceville-Bristol. He appeared in court in custody on Feb. 2 and was released with conditions.

Hefty fine for impaired driving

Ashley Noel Wilson, 31, of Harvey, was fined $3,250 when he appeared in provincial court for sentencing via teleconference on Feb. 24. He pleaded guilty to impaired driving.

Judge Karen Lee also prohibited him from driving for one year, minus 65 days.

Wilson was charged by the RCMP for an incident on Oct. 24, 2023, in the parking lot at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. Police found him sitting behind the wheel with open liquor in his vehicle. The court heard Wilson’s blood alcohol reading was more than double the legal limit. He had a previous conviction for impaired driving in 2016.

Guilty on five charges

Earl James Demerchant, 34, of Woodstock, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on May 4 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to five charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Demerchant pleaded guilty to mischief causing property damage to a window on Main Street in Woodstock on July 8, 2025; causing a disturbance in a public place and breach of probation in connection with an incident on Nov. 5, 2025; and breach of a release order and breach of probation on Nov. 22, 2025, in Woodstock.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 7 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions to enter a rehab facility in Moncton. He has a prior criminal record.

Charged with stolen property

Curtis Brent Hatheway, 46, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 to answer a stolen property charge laid by the Woodstock Police.

Hatheway was charged with possession of a stolen bicycle on Oct. 3, 2025, in Woodstock. He returns to court for plea March 17 at 9:30 a.m.

Damage at food bank

Elizabeth Alice Davidson, 55, of Nackawic, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by the Woodstock Police. She returns to court on March 24, at 9:30 a.m. to set a trial date.

Davidson was charged with breach of probation and mischief causing property damage on May 26, 2025, at the Valley Food Bank on Houlton Road.

Juniper man charged

Brian Spike of Juniper appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 to answer two charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until March 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Spike was charged with pointing a firearm at another man and assault with a weapon (a shotgun) stemming from an incident on Oct. 31, 2024, at Juniper. He was ordered to follow a curfew and have no firearms in his possession as part of his release order. An arrest warrant was issued after he failed to return to court following his bail hearing.

Multiple trial dates

Vinal Todd Hatto, 40, of Pokiok, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to several charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Hatto was charged with arson, dangerous driving, two counts of breaching a release order and driving while prohibited concerning at incident on Sept. 5, 2025, in Woodstock.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 3 for a decision on his bail and was released with conditions, including house arrest and the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He is also facing other charges of obstructing Woodstock Police and possession of stolen inspection stickers in connection with an incident on May 16, 2025. He pleaded not guilty and a trial date was set for Nov. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

He will also stand trial on seven drug trafficking charges laid by Woodstock Police. He pleaded not guilty and his trial date was set for Nov. 26-27 at 9:30 a.m.

Hatto was charged with possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, heroin, oxcontyin, hydromorphone, and methylphenidate, all for the purpose of trafficking, on May 28, 2025, in Lower Woodstock. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for May 1, at 1:30 p.m.

In September 2025, Hatto was released from custody with conditions to a rehab facility in Moncton after being sentenced to time served on other separate charges.

Plea postponed

Cameron James Clark, 25, of Mapledale, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 to answer charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until March 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel. The court heard a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Clark appeared in provincial court in custody by video in November for a bail hearing after being arrested for breaching his release order (ankle bracelet). He was released with conditions, including house arrest and wearing another electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He was charged by the RCMP with breach of probation, resisting arrest, uttering threats, stalking a female victim, breaking into at a dwelling house, assault with a weapon, assaulting another man, and mischief causing property damage to a door on Sept. 17, 2025, at Mapledale; stalking a female victim, dangerous driving and breach of probation on Sept. 19, 2025, in Mapledale; and breaching a release order on Oct. 21, 2025, in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants.

Awaiting trial date

Robin Sappier, 47, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear in provincial court on March 5 at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for her trial after pleading not guilty to an assault charge laid by RCMP.

Sappier was charged with assaulting a male victim on Aug. 28, 2025, at Neqotkuk. On Feb. 24, Defence Counsel Lindsay Paul told the court a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Returning for plea

Zacheriah Warman, 25, of Salisbury, will appear in provincial court on March 17 at 9:30 a.m. to answer one charge laid in Woodstock.

Warman was charged with transmitting an intimate image without consent for an incident on July 6, 2024. He was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Feb. 24 when the matter was adjourned to the new date. The court heard a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Trial by judge and jury

Dana Allison MacKay, 42, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to a sex charge laid by Woodstock Police. He elected trial by judge and jury at the Court of King’s Bench and a date for his trial will be set on the next Motion’s Day in April.

MacKay was charged by Woodstock Police with sexual assault in connection with an incident on Sept. 21, 2019, in Woodstock. Defence Counsel Patrick Hurley of Fredericton will represent him at trial.

Woodstock man facing sex charge

Michael Charles Denny, 33, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on March 17 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Denny was charged with sexual assault involving a female victim between Jan. 1 and Feb. 1, 2025, and uttering threats on Feb. 15, 2025, in Woodstock. He appeared in court for plea on Feb. 24 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel.

Wotstak man charged

Travis Martin, 43, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation) will appear in provincial court on March 17 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

Martin was charged with unlawful entry at a dwelling house and assault, concerning an incident on Nov. 5, 2025, at Richmond Corner. He appeared in court on Feb. 24 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Arrest warrant issued

The court issued an arrest warrant for Candace Parker, 42, of St. Stephen, who failed to appear on Feb. 24 to answer charges.

Parker is facing charges of uttering threats, assault, and robbery with violence related to an incident on Oct. 17, 2025, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). She is also charged with an offence under the Excise Act for possession of unstamped tobacco.

A co-accused, Stephen Mohan, 44, of St. Stephen, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 10 to answer a series of charges laid by RCMP. His plea was adjourned until March 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Mohan was charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking on Oct. 17, 2025, in Canterbury; and possession of unstamped tobacco on Oct. 17, 2025, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).  He is also facing other drug charges in Fredericton.

Mohan pleaded not guilty to other separate charges, but guilty to one other charge of resisting arrest. His trial date was set for Jan. 11, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

He was charged with possession of a weapon (a knife) dangerous to the public peace, uttering threats, and robbery of a motor vehicle using violence, concerning an incident on Oct. 17, 2025, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). He was also charged with resisting arrest on Oct. 17, 2025, at Canterbury.  His sentencing on that charge will be dealt with after his trial.

Mohan appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 30, 2025, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions.

Remanded into custody

Janine Marie Cronkhite, 28, of Nackawic, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 24 after being arrested on a warrant.

Cronkhite was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of probation. She returns to court in custody for plea on March 17 at 9:30 a.m. The court heard she was remanded to jail in Miramichi on other charges in Fredericton.

In custody awaiting trial

Logan Alexander Lagacy, 27, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 23 for a monitoring hearing about his trial on three charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Lagacy told the court he was still without legal counsel so another monitoring date was set for March 24 at 9:30 a.m.

He was charged with dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, breach of probation and driving while suspended following an incident on Dec. 29, 2025, in Woodstock. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for April 27 at 9:30 a.m. Lagacy was remanded to jail following a bail hearing on Jan. 5.

Assault with hot coffee

Morgan Disabto, 65, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded guilty to an assault charge laid by RCMP. His sentencing date was booked for May 26 at 1:30 p.m.

Disabto was charged with assault with a weapon (hot coffee) for an incident on March 19, 2025, at Hartland.

Sentencing adjourned

Leah Driscoll, 45, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear for sentencing in provincial court on May 7 at 1:30 p.m. after changing her plea to guilty on charges laid by RCMP. Her sentencing was first set for Feb. 24 but was adjourned.

She pleaded guilty to willfully neglecting an animal (two dogs) under the SPCA Act on July 23, 2023, at Neqotkuk; guilty to resisting arrest on July 23, 2023, and April 29, 2024; and breaching a release order on April 29, 2024, and May 26, 2024, in Woodstock. Three other charges were withdrawn by the crown.

A monitoring hearing prior to her sentencing was booked for March 20 at 9:30 a.m.

New trial date

Luke Andrew Crawford, 18, of Woodstock, will appear for trial in provincial court on Jan. 20, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to four charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Crawford was charged with unlawful confinement, assault involving a female victim, and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone following an incident on Aug. 18, 2025, in Woodstock. He was also charged with mischief causing damage to a set of car keys on Aug. 1, 2025, in Woodstock.

His trial was first scheduled for Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. but had to be re-booked at the request of the court.

Trial on four charges

Mark Denis Polchies, 43, of Woodstock, will appear for trial in provincial court on Feb. 24, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to four charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Polchies was charged with impaired driving, refusing a breathalyzer, resisting arrest and mischief causing property damage to a police cell, stemming from an incident on Oct. 26, 2025, at Beardsley Road. He entered his not-guilty plea at a court appearance on Feb. 24.

Charged with driving offences

Ryan Woodward, 42, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to several charges laid by local police. Trial dates were scheduled for May 25 at 9:30 a.m., June 20, at 9:30 a.m. and March 3, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Woodward was charged with three counts of driving while suspended on Aug. 21 and Aug. 23, 2025, at Wakefield and on Sept. 3, 2025, in Woodstock. He was also charged with dangerous driving and flight from police on Sept. 3, 2025. A monitoring hearing will be held on May 5 at 9:30 a.m. to confirm he has legal counsel to proceed to trial.

Returning for trial

Ronald DeLong, 38, of Wilmot, will appear for trial in provincial court on Feb. 26, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to a breach charge laid by the RCMP.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8, 2025, on a charge of breaching his curfew on Dec. 6 at Wilmot. He was released with conditions.

He also appeared for trial in provincial court on Dec. 10, 2025, after pleading not guilty to three other charges laid by RCMP. The trial was adjourned until March 21 at 1:30 p.m.

DeLong was charged with two counts of possession of a stolen motorcycle and possession of ammunition while prohibited following an incident on Aug. 7, 2024, at Wilmot.

Facing more charges

Zachery Don Brooks, 21, of Lower Brighton, will appear in provincial court on March 24 at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for his trial on six more charges laid by the RCMP.

He was charged with breaching a no-contact order, uttering threats, assault involving a female victim, assault with a weapon (a broom and a board), assault by choking and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone on Oct. 28, 2025, at Lower Brighton. He pleaded not guilty at a court appearance on Feb. 24.

Brooks appeared in provincial court on Jan. 6 for a monitoring hearing about his multiple trials on 20 other charges. He pleaded not guilty and trial dates were set for May 13 at 9:30 a.m., June 24 at 9:30 a.m., Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m., and Aug. 24 at 9:30 a.m. He told the court he was without legal counsel for any of his trials.

Brooks was charged by the RCMP with five counts of assault involving a female victim, four counts of assault by choking, three counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon (a phone cord), assault while threatening to use a weapon (a knife), possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, mischief causing damage to a cell phone, and two counts of breaching a release order (no contact).

The charges were laid in connection with a series of incidents on Nov. 24, 2024, Feb. 12, Feb. 17, May 28, June 9, June 10 and June 11, 2025, in Lower Brighton; on June 3 and June 5, 2025, in Hartland, and on Feb. 19, 2025, in Woodstock.
