Arrested on multiple assault charges
Stacey Harry Broad, 56, of Centreville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on April 15 on multiple assault charges laid by RCMP. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on May 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Broad was charged with assault, assault by choking, sexual assault and unlawful confinement involving a female victim in connection with an incident in the County of York between April 3 and April 10.
Sentenced to 125 days or time served
Corbin Messinger, 22, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody for sentencing on April 15 on five charges laid by RCMP. He was handed 125 days in jail or time served and was released from custody.
Associate Chief Judge Brian C. McLean also placed Messinger on 12 months of probation and ordered him to seek counselling for mental health and addiction.
Messinger pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching a release order and two counts of uttering threats following an incident on Jan. 20 at Plaster Rock. He also pleaded guilty to assault while threatening to use a weapon (a knife) stemming from an incident on Jan. 17 at Plaster Rock. The knife was forfeited to the crown.
He appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 22, only four days after his release from jail and was remanded for a bail hearing. He pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentencing. Messinger had a prior criminal record.
Conditional discharge, probation for threats
David Fleming, 18, of Plaster Rock, received a conditional discharge and two years of probation when he appeared in provincial court on April 16 for sentencing. He was also ordered to seek counselling for mental health and anger management.
RCMP charged Fleming with three counts of uttering threats against three female victims on Nov. 2, 2023, at Plaster Rock. He pleaded guilty to all three counts. The incident was related to a lockdown at Tobique Valley High School.
Fleming appeared in court in custody after the incident and was released with conditions. Associate Chief Judge Brian C. McLean ordered him to stay away from the school and have no contact with the three complainants. Fleming had no prior criminal record. He was prohibited from using firearms during his probation.
Judge McLean noted Fleming was a youthful offender who was remorseful and accepted responsibility for his actions. He also had a strong work record.
Jacksonville woman awaits sentencing
Stephanie Lynn Lockard, 41, of Jacksonville, appeared for trial in provincial court on April 15 and changed her plea to guilty on a lesser included offence.
Lockard was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and illegal possession of cannabis, stemming from an incident on Dec. 17, 2022, in Woodstock.
She pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and illegal possession of cannabis, and the trafficking charge was withdrawn. Her sentencing was set for July 16 at 1:30 p.m.
Fined $1,800 for impaired driving
Alexander St. Peter, 26, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court on April 16 to answer an impaired driving charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $1,800. He was also prohibited from driving for one year.
St. Peter was charged by RCMP with impaired driving on July 29, 2023, at Bedell. Police laid the charge after a vehicle went into the ditch, and a tow truck was called. Two occupants were in the vehicle, and St. Peter admitted to being the driver.
St. Peter had a prior criminal record, including one previous conviction for impaired driving in 2017. However, a jail sentence was not imposed since the 2017 conviction was outside the five-year parameter for a second offence.
Suspended sentence, probation
Kyrin Moulton, 18, of Grand Falls, formerly of Neqotkuk, received a suspended sentence and 18 months of probation after pleading guilty on April 4 to breach charges laid by RCMP. He was arrested on a warrant and spent several days in custody before sentencing.
Moulton was charged with failing to appear in court on July 5, 2023; breach of a release order on March 12 at Perth-Andover; and failing to attend court in Woodstock on March 12. Crown withdrew two other firearm charges.
Back in custody to await bail hearing
Hilton Romeo Fredericks, 26, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 15 to answer a third charge of breaching his release order. He was remanded to jail for a bail hearing on April 18 at 9:30 a.m.
On April 13, Woodstock Police charged Fredericks with being at large on a release order. He was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time.
He appeared in provincial court in custody on April 11 for a bail hearing on a charge of breaching his release order. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He returns to court for plea on that charge on May 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Woodstock Police charged him with breaching his release order by being at large at a Woodstock residence and by violating a no-contact order on April 6.
Fredericks appeared in court in custody on April 4 and was charged with assaulting another man concerning an incident on April 2 in Woodstock.
He was released with conditions and ordered to reside in Kirkland.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on March 18 on a charge of breaching his release order laid by Woodstock Police. He was released with conditions but was brought back into custody.
Fredericks appeared in provincial court on March 12 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Jan. 13, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Woodstock Police charged him with assault involving a female victim and breach of an undertaking in connection with an incident on Jan. 23 in Woodstock. He was brought into custody on Jan. 26 and spent the weekend in jail.
Trial scheduled for Woodstock man
Travis Wade Johnston, 38, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 16 and pleaded not guilty to several charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was set for May 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Woodstock Police charged Johnston with two counts of uttering threats, assault involving a female victim, unlawful confinement, committing mischief by removing data from a cell phone, and criminal harassment concerning a series of incidents that took place in Woodstock between Sept. 1-30, 2023, on Feb. 17 and Jan. 31, and between Aug. 1, 2023, and March 12.
Johnston appeared in provincial court in custody on March 20 and was remanded for a bail hearing. Woodstock Police arrested him two days after his first release from custody.
He appeared in court in custody on March 18 and was released with conditions, including a no-contact order. He was back in custody on March 20 for breaching the order and was remanded for a bail hearing on March 21. He was rereleased with amended conditions.
Released with conditions after weekend in jail
Ashley Paul, 33, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 15 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. She returns to court for plea on May 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Paul appeared in provincial court in custody on April 12 after being arrested on a warrant and spent the weekend in jail. She failed to appear in court for a plea on March 19 on multiple charges laid by RCMP, and an arrest warrant was issued. On April 15, she also faced a new charge of resisting arrest.
Paul appeared in provincial court in custody on March 4 and was released with conditions but failed to return for plea. She was charged with uttering a forged document (a $2,000 cheque), possession of stolen property (cheques), fraud, and breach of probation, stemming from an incident on Oct. 10, 2023, near Perth-Andover.
She was also charged with unlawful entry at a dwelling house and breach of probation for an incident on Feb. 14 at Neqotkuk, and assaulting another woman and breach of probation on March 2 near Perth-Andover.
Charged with drug trafficking
Ronald McLaughlin, 33, of St. Stephen, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 12 for plea on charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until May 2 at 9:30 a.m.
McLaughlin appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 30. The RCMP charged him with dangerous driving, driving while suspended, and driving without insurance following an incident on Jan. 29 in Grafton. He is also facing other charges in Saint John.
On April 12, McLaughlin was also charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking in connection with the same incident in Grafton.
Trial scheduled for Neqotkuk man
Garrison Cane Perley, 33, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court on April 16 for monitoring about his upcoming trial. He confirmed he has legal counsel to proceed to trial.
Perley pleaded not guilty to three charges laid by RCMP. His trial was set for Nov. 20-21 at 9:30 a.m. He was charged with assault involving a female victim, assault by choking, and assault with a weapon (a knife) in connection with an incident on Oct. 14, 2023, near Perth-Andover.
Returning to court for plea
Ashley Dawn Giberson, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court for plea on April 16 on charges laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned until April 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of her defence counsel.
Giberson appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 27 and was released with conditions. Woodstock Police charged her with breach of a release order by failing to follow a curfew on Feb. 15 and shoplifting at Canadian Tire in Woodstock on Feb. 3.
She was also charged with two counts of breaching a release order by failing to follow a curfew in Woodstock on Sept. 1 and Nov 9, 2023. Those matters were adjourned for plea until her next court date.
Not guilty plea entered
Nicholas Adam Cullins of Ashland appeared in provincial court on April 16 and pleaded not guilty to one charge laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Feb. 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Cullins appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 9 and was released with conditions. He was arrested on a warrant and charged with break-in and theft at a storage facility on Popular Street in Woodstock on March 15, 2023.
Trial set on two charges
Joshua Desroches, 19, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 16 and pleaded not guilty to two charges. His trial date was set for April 2, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
RCMP charged Desroches with breach of an undertaking by violating a no-contact order stemming from an incident on Sept. 25, 2023, near Woodstock. He was arrested and later released from custody with conditions with an order to attend court and have no contact with the complainant. The court heard he also has other charges in Fredericton.
Desroches appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on March 21 after being arrested on a warrant and charged with failing to appear in court on Feb. 13. He was released from custody with conditions.
Arrest warrant issued
The court issued an arrest warrant for Trevor Gerald McDougall, 32, of Perth Andover, after he failed to appear in court for monitoring about his trial on April 16.
Woodstock Police charged McDougall with uttering threats concerning an incident in Woodstock on July 17, 2023. He pleaded not guilty in October, and a trial date was set for Aug. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
Charged with impersonation
Michael Murphy, 28, of no fixed address, will appear in provincial court on April 30 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by RCMP.
Murphy was charged with fraudulent impersonation with intent to avoid arrest concerning an incident on March 11 at Wostak (Woodstock First Nation). He appeared in court on April 9 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Plea still pending on 2019 charge
Byron Faughn MacKenzie, 27, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court on April 9 to answer a threat charge laid in 2019.
RCMP charged MacKenzie with uttering threats against another man following an incident on Aug. 31, 2019, at Richmond Settlement. He was arrested on a warrant and ordered to appear in court for plea. The matter was then adjourned until April 30 at 9:30 a.m.
