Ontario man charged with arson, threats

An Ontario man appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12 after being denied bail on multiple charges laid by the RCMP.

Michael Frost, 56, formerly of Howard Brook, was charged with committing arson by burning a vehicle, two counts of uttering threats, three counts of resisting arrest, flight from police, and two counts of breaching an undertaking, concerning incidents on Jan. 6-7 and on Jan. 17 in Florenceville-Bristol.  He returns to court in custody via video for plea on Feb. 17 at 9:30 a.m.

Denied bail and remanded

Brodey O’Donnell, 23, of Campbell Settlement, was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12. He remains in jail to await his trial.

At an earlier court appearance, O’Donnell pleaded not guilty to charges laid by the RCMP. His trial dates were booked for May 15 and June 26 at 9:30 a.m.

O’Donnell was charged by the RCMP with assaulting police with a weapon (a sword), uttering threats, and resisting arrest for an incident on July 17, 2025, at Campbell Settlement.

He appeared in provincial court in custody in Woodstock on Aug. 19, 2025, after being arrested on a warrant on charges in Edmundston. He faces another charge of resisting arrest for an altercation with sheriffs at the courthouse on Aug. 19, 2025.

Another charge of breaching his release order (curfew) was laid by the RCMP for an incident on Sept. 26, 2025, at Campbell Settlement.

Released to rehab facility

Joshua Alexander Russell, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions to a rehab facility in Nova Scotia. He returns to court for plea on March 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Russell was charged by Woodstock Police with assault involving a female victim, uttering threats, two counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, mischief causing property damage to a wall, and breach of a release order following an incident in Woodstock on Feb. 7. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants.

He also appeared in provincial court on Feb. 3 and pleaded not guilty to a breach charge. His trial was set for Jan. 13, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. Russell was charged by Woodstock Police with breaching his release order stemming from an incident between Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, 2025, in Woodstock.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 16, 2025, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. Russell also pleaded not guilty to six other charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Jan. 13-14, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Russell was charged with two counts of breaking into a dwelling house, breach of an emergency intervention order, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, and driving while suspended in connection with an incident on Sept. 21, 2025, in Woodstock. He has a prior criminal record.

Released with conditions

Mitchell McKenzie, 39, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on March 3 at 9:30 a.m.

McKenzie was charged by the RCMP with uttering threats and breach of probation concerning an incident on Feb. 7 at Wotstak. As part of his release, he was ordered to report weekly to the police and to have no contact with the complainant.

Hearing on breach allegation

Dana McLean, 60, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12 for a bail hearing after being arrested for allegedly breaching his house arrest. He was released with conditions to a residence in Fredericton to await a hearing.

McLean was charged by Woodstock Police with being unlawfully at large. He denied the allegation, and a hearing was booked for Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m. In December, McLean was handed a six-month conditional sentence order after pleading guilty to copper wire theft.

Returning for plea

Josiah McKinnon, 25, of Victoria Corner, will appear in provincial court on March 3 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an assault charge laid by the RCMP.

McKinnon was charged with assault by choking involving a female victim in connection with an incident on Dec. 20, 2025, at Victoria Corner. He made his first court appearance on Feb. 10 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Arrested on warrant

Janine Marie Cronkhite, 28, of Nackawic, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 10 after being arrested on a warrant.

Cronkhite was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of probation. She returns to court for plea on Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m. The court heard she was remanded to jail in Miramichi on other charges in Fredericton.

Three charged in string of thefts

Three individuals have been charged in connection with a string of thefts in the Woodstock area.

Madison Anderson, 20, of Fredericton, formerly of Plaster Rock, was charged with two counts of theft on Nov. 24, 2025, at the Petro Canada near Meductic.

The court heard that she is also charged with a copper wire theft at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation) on the same date. She returns to court for plea on March 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Michael Ronald McKee of Woodstock appeared in court in custody via video on Feb. 12 and adjourned his plea until Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m.

Bastian Kitchener Bradbury, 19, of Fredericton, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 5 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions to a rehab facility near Sussex and returns to court for plea on March 3 at 1:30 p.m.

Bradbury and McKee were each charged with breaking into a woodworking shop on Searle Street, possession of stolen tools, possession of a stolen vehicle (a Mazda CX5), possession of break-in tools, and prowling at night on Nov. 24, 2025.  Bradbury also faces a charge of wearing a mask while committing an offence.

McKee waived his bail until later. He was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in connection with an incident on Nov. 5, 2025, at Bedell.

Both men are also charged with theft of copper wire on Nov. 24, 2025, from the back of a truck at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). The court heard the two are also facing other charges in Fredericton.

New trial date

Nicholas Robert Erikson, 34, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 12 to set a new trial date.

He pleaded not guilty to charges laid by the RCMP, and his trial was rescheduled for April 24 at 9:30 a.m.

Erikson was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Sept. 29, 2025. He was charged by the RCMP with breaking into a dwelling house, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest on Aug. 12, 2025, at Oak Mountain. Another charge was withdrawn by the Crown. Erikson has a prior criminal record.

Sentencing decision adjourned

Morgan Nicholas, 30, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. for a decision on his sentence. He pleaded guilty to several charges laid by the RCMP.

On Feb. 10, Judge Rose Campbell heard closing submissions from both the Crown and defence counsel and then adjourned her decision to Feb. 12. She then adjourned her decision again to Feb. 19.

Crown Prosecutor Charles Couturier recommended Nicholas receive 12 months in jail, minus time served, and 12 months of probation. Couturier also requested a DNA order for the accused and a 10-year prohibition on firearms.

Defence Counsel Taylor Campbell asked for 111 days in jail or time served and 18 months of probation, as well as an order for Nicholas to undergo mental health counselling and treatment for addiction. He has a prior criminal record.

Nicholas appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 4, 2025, and was denied bail. On Jan. 13, he pleaded guilty to resisting arrest following an altercation on Nov. 29, 2025, at a residence in Neqotkuk. Another charge of breaching his release order was withdrawn by the Crown.

Nicholas also pleaded guilty to failing to attend court and assault causing bodily harm to a correctional officer on Jan. 21, 2024, at Madawaska. He also pleaded guilty to theft from a gas bar on May 25, 2025, in Perth-Andover, and two counts of breaching his house arrest on June 3 and Sept. 9, 2025, at Neqotkuk.

Not-guilty plea

Brycen Trae Stewart, 28, of Lakeville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Feb. 12 and pleaded not guilty to two counts of breaching his release order. He returns to court in custody on Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. for a monitoring hearing.

Stewart was charged by the Woodstock Police following incidents on Dec. 4 and Dec. 7, 2025, in Woodstock. He was denied bail and remanded. His trial was booked for March 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Stewart appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8, 2025, to answer a charge of breaching his release order on Dec. 7, 2025, at Wilmot. He was released on conditions at the time, but was later re-arrested.

He is also awaiting trial on March 12-13 at 9:30 a.m., after pleading not guilty to other charges laid by the Woodstock Police and the RCMP.

Stewart was charged by Woodstock Police with dangerous driving, flight from police and breaching his curfew on Dec. 16, 2024, in Woodstock. He was also charged with breaching a no-contact order on Jan. 13, 2025, in Woodstock.

Stewart was also charged with two counts of breaching his release order (curfew) concerning incidents on Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, 2024, in Woodstock. He was charged with breaking into a dwelling house on May 25, 2024, in Killoween and possession of a stolen vehicle on Aug. 4, 2023, in Lakeville.

Awaiting legal counsel

Samuel Robert Crewe, 31, and Timothy Brian Wheelan, 39, both of Jacksonville, appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 12 to deal with charges laid by local police. Wheelan was still without legal counsel, so all matters were adjourned to Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.

The RCMP charged the two accused with possession of methamphetamine, ecstasy, cocaine and fentanyl, all for the purpose of trafficking in connection with incidents between June 1 and June 13, 2025, in Jacksonville. Crewe pleaded not guilty, but his trial date has not been set.

Crewe also has 13 gun charges related to the same incident in June 2025. He pleaded not guilty, and trial dates were set for Sept. 16, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. and Nov. 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Wheelan is awaiting plea on 48 related gun charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was denied bail on Nov. 20, 2025. He was also charged by the RCMP with breach of a peace bond, possession of a stolen utility trailer, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, and flight from police on Nov. 17, 2025, in Meductic. He is also facing four threat charges.

Crewe was sentenced to three years in federal prison, minus time served, when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 26. He pleaded guilty to a raft of drug and theft charges, as well as driving offences, laid by Woodstock Police and the RCMP.  He had a prior criminal record.
