Woodstock man charged in serious assault

Jacob Munn, 31, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 9 to face an assault charge related to an incident on Charles Street on Dec. 7.

Munn was charged by Woodstock Police with aggravated assault on another man by wounding him in connection with an incident near the Knights of Columbus Hall on the weekend. He was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing by video.

The bail hearing was scheduled for Dec. 11 at 9:30 a.m., but is expected to be adjourned to Dec. 18 at the request of Defence Counsel T.J. Burke.

The charge was laid after a man was transported to the hospital in Fredericton for treatment of serious injuries.

Break-in on Searle Street

Two men appeared in custody via video on Dec. 9 to answer charges related to a break-in on Searle Street on Nov. 24.

Bastian Bradbury of Fredericton and Michael Ronald McKee of Woodstock were each charged with breaking into a woodworking shop, possession of stolen tools, possession of a stolen vehicle (a Mazda CX5), possession of break-in tools, and prowling at night. Bradbury also faces a charge of wearing a mask while committing an offence.

Both men were remanded for a bail hearing on Dec. 11. The court heard they are also in custody on other charges in Fredericton.

Held for bail hearing

Ryan Troy O’Donnell, 28, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 8 to answer four charges. He returns to court in custody for a bail hearing on Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m.

O’Donnell was arrested on Dec. 5 and charged by the RCMP with theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and mischief. He has a lengthy prior criminal record.

Decision reserved after trial

Johnny Lee Bloodsworth, 39, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 8 for the conclusion of his trial on multiple sex charges.

After hearing closing arguments from both the crown and defence counsel, Judge Karen Lee reserved her decision on a verdict until Feb. 3, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. The allegations involve two complainants.

Bloodsworth was charged by the RCMP with four counts of sexual assault and eight counts of touching a female minor for a sexual purpose in connection with incidents between July 10, 2023 and Sept. 4, 2023. He pleaded not guilty.

Bloodsworth also pleaded not guilty to sexual assault, two counts of touching a female minor for a sexual purpose, and uttering threats in connection with an incident between April 1, 2023 and Sept. 1, 2023.

Bloodsworth appeared in provincial court in custody via video on June 25, 2024, for a bail hearing and was released on conditions.

He also appeared in provincial court on July 8 and pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaching his release order. His trial was set for July 2, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Bloodsworth was charged by the RCMP in connection with an incident between Jan. 31 and May 30 in Arthurette. He was arrested and released on conditions.

Trial in fatal accident

Casey Feuser, 37, of Sussex, will appear at the Court of King’s Bench in Woodstock on Jan. 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for his trial by judge alone.

He faces four charges related to a fatal accident that killed two people on the Trans Canada Highway outside Woodstock last year.

Feuser was charged by the RCMP with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident on Sept. 26, 2024, near Hay Settlement. Represented by defence counsel, he pleaded not guilty and waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Dec. 9.

Two male passengers from Sussex died as a result of the single-vehicle accident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. The vehicle was travelling eastbound on the highway when it lost control and went into a ditch.

Conditional discharge, probation

Clayton Giberson, 64, of Gordonsville, received a conditional discharge and six months of probation when he appeared for sentencing in provincial court on Dec. 9. He must also make a $250 donation to a local charity.

Giberson pleaded guilty to assaulting another man and mischief, causing property damage to a truck, for an incident on Nov. 24, 2024, in Gordonsville. RCMP laid the charges following an altercation between Giberson and another man over hunting on private property. He had no prior criminal record.

Copper wire theft

Dana Keith MacLean, 60, of Woodstock, received a six-month conditional sentence order and 12 months of probation when he appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9. He pleaded guilty to a charge of indictable theft.

MacLean was charged by the RCMP with theft of copper wire in connection with an incident on July 24, 2024, at a construction site on Simcox Road outside of Woodstock. A mischief charge was withdrawn by the crown. He will serve three months of his sentence under full house arrest and three months under curfew.

Chief Judge Brian C. McLean also fined MacLean $100 and ordered him to pay $500 restitution to Cook’s Construction Ltd. for damage to the company’s equipment. The theft was caught on video when MacLean made off with $1,500 worth of copper wire. He had a prior criminal record.

Aroostook man to stand trial

Edward Fitzherbert, 48, of Aroostook, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 for monitoring about his trial after pleading not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Fitzherbert was charged with two counts of uttering threats and assaulting another man with a weapon (a baseball bat) stemming from an incident on March 21 at Aroostook. Another monitoring hearing was set for Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to confirm he will be ready to proceed to trial.

Adjourned for plea

Deven Lennon, 31, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 to answer two charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m.

Lennon was charged with uttering threats and breach of probation for an incident on Oct. 25 at Neqotkuk.

Returning for trial

Chad Clark, 47, of Mount Pleasant, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 and pleaded not guilty to several charges laid by the RCMP. His trial was scheduled for Nov. 30, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

He was charged with unlawful confinement, assault involving a female victim, uttering threats and mischief causing property damage to a phone for an incident on Oct. 17 at Moose Mountain. He was ordered to have no firearms and cannot have contact with the complainant.

Clark appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 20 for a bail hearing. He posted at $2,000 bail bond and was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He also appeared in provincial court on Aug. 26 after pleading not guilty to a separate robbery charge laid by the RCMP. His trial dates were set for Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. He was charged with robbery with violence in connection with the theft of a vehicle on Feb. 5 at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).

Charge withdrawn

The Crown withdrew a fraud charge laid against Cindy Mean, 64, of Lower Brighton, during provincial court on Dec. 8.

Mean was charged by the RCMP with defrauding another person of a sum of money with a value not exceeding $5,000 in connection with incidents between Aug. 2 and Oct. 3, 2022, at Lower Brighton.

Trial adjourned on technicality

Cindy Demerchant, 53, of Lower Kintore, appeared for trial in provincial court on Dec. 8 after pleading not guilty to two charges related to a break-in at the local Tim Hortons.

The trial was adjourned until Jan. 5, 2026, at 1 p.m., when a hearing will be held on a legal technicality regarding her mode of trial. Demerchant was charged by the RCMP with break and enter and theft of food and money from Tim Hortons in Perth-Andover on May 9, 2024.

Arrested on a warrant

Robert McFarlane, 39, of Florenceville-Bristol, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8 after being arrested on a warrant.

McFarlane was charged with breaching his curfew on Dec. 6 at Florenceville-Bristol. Judge Karen Lee released him with conditions. He returns to court for plea on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

He was also charged by the RCMP with assaulting another man on April 4, 2024, at Florenceville-Bristol, and breaking into a dwelling house, committing mischief, causing property damage to a door, and breaching an undertaking on May 4, 2024, in Johnville.

He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for Nov. 26, but he failed to appear, and a warrant was issued. A new trial date will be set when he returns to court on Jan. 6.

McFarlane also appeared in provincial court on Aug. 5 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by the RCMP. Another trial date was booked for Aug. 24, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.  He was charged with uttering threats and theft of cigarettes in connection with an incident on Feb. 15 at Florenceville-Bristol.

Released with conditions

Ronald DeLong, 38, of Wilmot, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8 to answer a charge of breaching his curfew on Dec. 6. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on Dec. 10 at 9:30 a.m.

DeLong will also appear for trial on Dec. 10 after pleading not guilty to three other charges laid by the RCMP. He was charged with two counts of possession of a stolen motorcycle and possession of ammunition while prohibited following an incident on Aug. 7, 2024, at Wilmot.

Remanded for bail hearing

Nathan Aaron Sewell, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8 after being arrested by the RCMP on the weekend.

Sewell was charged with breaching an undertaking (not to drive any vehicle) and indictable possession of a stolen ATV on Dec. 7 at Wilmot. He was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m.

Breach of release order

Brycen Trae Stewart, 28, of Lakeville, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Dec. 8 to answer a charge of breaching his release order. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Stewart is also awaiting trial on March 12-13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to other charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP.

He was charged by Woodstock Police with dangerous driving, flight from police and breaching his curfew on Dec. 16, 2024, in Woodstock. He was also charged with breaching a no-contact order on Jan. 13 in Woodstock.

He was also charged with two counts of breaching his release order (curfew) concerning incidents on Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, 2024, in Woodstock.

Stewart was charged with breaking into a dwelling house on May 25, 2024, in Killoween and possession of a stolen vehicle on Aug. 4, 2023, in Lakeville.

He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Jan. 30 for a bail hearing after being arrested on warrants. He was released on conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device on his ankle. The court heard Stewart would be attending a rehab facility in Moncton under house arrest.

Trial adjourned to new date

Patrick Campbell, 29, of Carlingford, appeared for trial in provincial court on Dec. 5 after pleading not guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP. His trial was adjourned until March 2 and March 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Campbell was charged with breaching a no-contact order and obstructing the course of justice following an incident on March 3 at Carlingford. He was released with conditions, including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Campbell pleaded not guilty to other charges of sexual assault involving a female victim, assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, assault with a weapon (a knife), attempting to obstruct justice, and administering a noxious substance, in connection with incidents between 2020 and 2024 in Victoria County.

His trial dates were set for March 2, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. and March 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. A monitoring date was also scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Refusing a breathalyzer

Daljit Singh, 26, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 13, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Singh was charged with refusing a breathalyzer and driving without insurance following an incident in Woodstock. He was scheduled to answer the charge on Dec. 9, but the matter was adjourned to the new date at his lawyer’s request.

Neqotkuk man released

Ringo Sacobie, 58, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody via video for a bail hearing on Dec. 8. He was released on an order to return to court for plea on Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Sacobie was arrested by the RCMP on a charge of breaching his release order on Dec. 6 at Neqotkuk.

He also appeared in provincial court on Oct. 30 and pleaded not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was set for Oct. 26, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Sacobie was charged with uttering threats, assault and unlawful confinement concerning an incident between Sept. 14 and Sept. 30 at Perth-Andover. He was arrested, held for a bail hearing, and then released on conditions.

Returning for plea

Zacheriah Warman, 25, of Shediac, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. to answer a charge laid in Woodstock.

Warman was charged with transmitting an intimate image without consent for an incident on July 6, 2024. He was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 9, but the matter was adjourned to the new date at his lawyer’s request.

Guilty plea on two charges

Robert Lewey of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) appeared for trial in provincial court on Dec. 8 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for March 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Lewey pleaded guilty to impaired driving and dangerous driving for an incident on Aug. 25, 2024, at Neqotkuk.  Three other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Trial date in February

Ashley Marie Bernard, 39, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 and pleaded not guilty to one charge laid by the RCMP. Her trial date was set for Feb. 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Bernard appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Nov. 18 and was released with conditions. She was charged with breaching her release order (curfew) on Nov. 17 in Perth-Andover. The court heard she also has another matter set for trial on Feb. 23.

Two charged following police chase

Brandon Schriver, 24, of Beaconsfield, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. to answer two charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was scheduled for plea on Dec. 9 but was adjourned to the new date.

Schriver was charged with possession of ammunition while prohibited from having it, and possession of a stolen utility trailer following an incident on Nov. 17 at Meductic. He has a prior criminal record.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Nov. 18 and was released on conditions, including the requirement to wear an ankle electronic monitoring device.

A co-accused, Timothy Wheelan, 39, of Jacksonville, appeared in court in custody via teleconference on Nov. 18. He was denied bail on Nov. 20 and returns to court for plea on Dec. 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Wheelan was charged with breach of a peace bond, possession of a stolen utility trailer, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, and flight from police for the same incident on Nov. 17. He is also facing drug trafficking charges, four threat charges and 48 firearm offences.

Plea adjourned

Nicholas Demerchant, 49, of Beechwood, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

Demerchant was charged with assault and assault with a weapon (a chair) concerning an incident on Aug. 14 at Beechwood. He appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Sentencing on multiple charges

Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 and pleaded guilty to multiple charges laid by the RCMP. She returns to court for sentencing on Jan. 12, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Sockabasin appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Nov. 20 for a bail hearing. She was released on conditions, including the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device on her ankle.

On Dec. 9, she pleaded guilty to theft at the Ultramar in Carlingford on Aug. 11, on Dec. 22, 2023, and on Feb. 12, 2024; guilty to breaching of probation and breach of an undertaking on Feb. 12, 2024; breaching a release order on Sept. 4 and Nov. 9 at Perth-Andover; guilty to theft at the Superstore in Grand Falls and obstructing police on April 1; failing to report to the police between July 4 and Aug. 22; and breaching a release order on July 8 in Grand Falls. Another theft charge is still being transferred from Edmundston to Woodstock.

Zealand man awaits sentence

Sheldon Marr-Brewer, 26, of Zealand, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Jan. 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on three charges laid by the RCMP.

Marr-Brewer was charged by the RCMP with breaking into a dwelling house, resisting arrest, flight from police, and dangerous driving concerning an incident on March 12, 2024, near Cloverdale.

He pleaded guilty to forcible entry at a dwelling house, driving while suspended and resisting arrest. The remaining charges were withdrawn by the Crown. His sentencing was first set for Jan. 14, but was adjourned to the new date.

Adjourned for plea

Chandler Spittle, 23, of Perth-Andover, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP.

Spittle was charged by the RCMP with possession of counterfeit money (a $100 US bill) and using counterfeit money concerning an incident on Dec. 24, 2023, at Johnson Settlement.

On Dec. 9, Woodstock Police charged him with flight from police, dangerous driving, and obstructing police in connection with an Aug. 2 incident in Woodstock. He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Aug. 22 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to attend court and was released with conditions.

Trial on assault charge

Adam Grant Saunders, 29, of Woodstock, will appear for trial in provincial court on Jan. 7, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to an assault charge.

Saunders was charged by Woodstock Police in connection with an incident on June 6 in Woodstock. Defence Counsel Peter Crocco entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf during a court appearance on Dec. 9.

Beechwood woman to enter plea

Courtney Demerchant, 28, of Beechwood, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police. She was scheduled to enter a plea on Dec. 9 when the matter was adjourned at the request of her defence counsel.

Demerchant was charged with assaulting a male victim in connection with an incident on Feb. 15 in Woodstock.

She will also appear for trial in provincial court on July 22, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to two other assault charges laid by the RCMP.

Demerchant was charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm concerning an incident on Nov. 5, 2024, in Beechwood.

Four trial dates

Zachery Don Brooks, 21, of Lower Brighton, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 and pleaded not guilty to 20 charges laid by the RCMP. Trial dates were set for May 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., June 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., Aug. 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., and Aug. 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Brooks was charged with five counts of assault involving a female victim, four counts of assault by choking, three counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon (a phone cord), assault while threatening to use a weapon (a knife), possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, mischief causing damage to a cell phone, and two counts of breaching a release order (no contact).

The charges were laid in connection with a series of incidents on Nov. 24, 2024; Feb. 12, Feb. 17, May 28, June 9, June 10, and June 11, in Lower Brighton; on June 3 and June 5 in Hartland; and on Feb. 19 in Woodstock. A monitoring date for all of his trials was scheduled for Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Holmesville man guilty of manslaughter

Joshua Raines, 49, of Holmesville, will appear for sentencing in provincial court in Fredericton on Jan. 29 after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Raines was originally charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Lucas Richard Solomon Polchies in the early morning hours of March 12, 2023, in Lincoln near Fredericton.

Raines was released from custody under house arrest until his sentencing in Fredericton. He had spent a lengthy time in remand. The crown plans to recommend four and a half years in prison on the manslaughter charge.

Raines also has other charges in Woodstock, which are being transferred to Fredericton. He was charged by the RCMP with dangerous driving, breach of a release order, driving while suspended, and careless driving, following an accident on April 20 at Florenceville-Bristol. A monitoring hearing will be held on Feb. 9, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. to confirm the file has been transferred.

Plea and sentencing set

Caleb Wavel Crain, 42, of Piercemont, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 9 for a monitoring hearing. He is awaiting plea on one set of charges and sentencing on another. All matters were adjourned until Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m.

Crain was charged by Woodstock Police with transporting a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a firearm without a licence (a semi-automatic rifle), and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm, following an incident on June 19 in Woodstock. He will enter a plea on Dec. 17.

Crain was also charged with assault causing bodily harm to a female victim, unlawful confinement, and uttering threats following an incident on Dec. 10, 2022, near Florenceville-Bristol. He pleaded guilty to the lesser included offence of common assault and guilty to uttering threats. The crown withdrew the confinement charge.

He returns to court for sentencing on those charges on Dec. 17. Since Crain disputed the facts to be presented by the Crown, a hearing must be held before his sentence can be imposed.

Returning for plea

Nicholas Robert McHatten, 29, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 16 at 9:30 a.m. to answer an impaired driving charge.

McHatten was charged by Woodstock Police concerning an incident on May 27 in Woodstock. He was scheduled for plea on Dec. 9 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel.

Facing two charges

Makayla Phillips, 22, of Hartland, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 16 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

Phillips was charged with uttering threats and mischief, causing property damage to a house for an incident on Jan. 24 in Richmond Settlement. On Dec. 9, the court heard that a resolution is being sought with the Crown to move the matter to the alternative measures program.

In federal prison

Robert Louis Michaud, 54, formerly of Grand Falls, appeared in provincial court in custody via video from federal prison on Dec. 9 to deal with charges laid by local police.

Michaud was charged with breaching a release order and two counts of driving while suspended, stemming from incidents between May 10 and June 23 in Woodstock. He returns to court in custody for plea on Jan. 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Michaud, Matthew Harris, 46, of Meductic, and Adrienne Susan Dickison, 34, of Dow Settlement, were all charged for an incident at the airport in Lincoln on Nov. 23, 2023, when a quantity of crystal meth was seized by police.

Michaud and Dickison were each sentenced in October to two years in federal prison. Harris was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison on Nov. 20.

Harris appeared in provincial court in Woodstock in custody via video on Nov. 25 to answer other charges laid by the RCMP. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial dates were set for Feb. 11, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. and Feb. 27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

He pleaded not guilty to assault by choking involving a female victim and committing mischief causing property damage following an incident on Sept. 2 in Meductic, as well as two counts of driving while suspended.
