Woodstock Provincial Court: Man facing two counts of trafficking in cocaine

Charged with trafficking in cocaine

Jacob Richard Sewell, 34, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to answer drug trafficking charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Sewell was charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine in connection with incidents on April 24 and May 2 in Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned for plea to the new date.

Accident leads to charges

Desmon Eugene Longstaff, 22, of Back Greenfield Road, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Longstaff was charged with impaired driving, causing bodily harm, and refusing a breathalyzer demand following an accident on April 19 in Woodstock. Longstaff made his first court appearance on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date. The court heard there were three passengers in the vehicle.

Limestone woman charged

Brandi Cowper, 46, of Limestone, will appear in provincial court on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by RCMP.

Cowper was charged with obstructing the course of justice concerning an incident on Aug. 10 in Jackson Falls. She was scheduled to attend court on Nov. 5 and did not appear but was represented by Defence Counsel Daniel Gallant via teleconference.

House arrest for Debec man

Brian Vrieze, 54, of Debec, appeared in provincial court for sentencing on Nov. 5 after changing his plea to guilty on three charges. He was sentenced to three months of house arrest and 12 months of probation.

Vrieze was ordered to follow a curfew and will be allowed to attend work during his house arrest. He pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm without a license, a Savage 223 rifle, concerning a Nov. 18, 2021, incident at Limestone; guilty to failing to appear for trial on Nov. 6, 2023; and guilty to possession of a stolen ATV on July 27, 2023, in Woodstock.

The court heard RCMP caught Vrieze with a loaded rifle and ammunition inside his vehicle on Ivey Road near Debec. The rifle was forfeited to the crown, and he was prohibited from possessing firearms during his probation. Vrieze was also nabbed by police while pushing a stolen ATV on a trail near Beardsley Road around 4 a.m.

Another charge of indictable possession of methamphetamine on April 24, 2021, was withdrawn by the crown.  Vrieze told the court on Tuesday he was wearing an ankle bracelet about a separate release order issued in September. He had a prior criminal record.

Tyler Vrieze, 29, of Debec, was also charged by Woodstock Police with possessing stolen property (an ATV). He pleaded not guilty on April 9; his trial date was set for April 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Fine and probation on two charges

Samantha Adderley, 53, of Mapleview, Victoria County, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 for sentencing after pleading guilty to two charges laid by RCMP.

Adderley was charged with refusing a breathalyzer, impaired driving, and assaulting a police officer in connection with an incident on April 3 near Perth-Andover. She pleaded guilty to the assault and impaired driving, and the crown withdrew the remaining charge.

Adderley was fined $1,500 on the impaired driving charge and was prohibited from driving for one year. The court heard police stopped her vehicle on Main Street around 6 p.m. after spotting her driving on the wrong side of the road.

She was also fined $100 and received a suspended sentence and 12 months of probation for assaulting the police officer at the station after her arrest. She was also ordered to serve 20 hours of community service work. Adderley had no prior criminal record. She was ordered to seek counselling as required.

Neqotkuk man denied bail

Stephen Perley, 28, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 4 for a bail hearing on multiple firearm charges laid by RCMP.  He was denied bail and returns to court in custody for plea on Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m.

Perley was charged with unlawful transport of firearms (several rifles, a shotgun, and a nine-millimetre handgun), possession of prohibited firearms, two counts of transporting firearms carelessly, two counts of possessing firearms without a licence, and possession of a gun with the serial number altered in connection with an incident on Sept. 24 at Neqotkuk. He was also charged with flight from police and breach of probation for a separate incident on Sept. 14.

Fredericton man in custody

Patrick Myers, 39, of Fredericton, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 5 to answer three charges laid by RCMP.

Myers was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, breach of an undertaking and possession of ammunition while prohibited in connection with an incident on May 20 at Plaster Rock. He returns to court in custody for plea on Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m.  The court heard Myers was remanded on other matters in Fredericton.

Released with ankle bracelet

Regis Bowmaster, 31, of Bairdsville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on Nov. 4 after being arrested on three charges. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He returns to court for plea on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP charged Bowmaster with two counts of breaching a release order and possession of methamphetamine concerning an incident on Oct. 23 at Pembroke. He will be residing at a residence in Carlingford as part of his release order.

He also appeared in provincial court on July 16 and pleaded not guilty to several other charges laid by RCMP. His trial dates were set for June 2, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. and June 12-13, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Bowmaster was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest concerning an incident on Jan. 4 at Bairdsville. He was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon (a sawed-off shotgun), improper storage of a firearm, possession of a stolen ATV, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a gun for another incident on May 27 at Perth Andover.

Not guilty of assault

Jerod Nowlan, 40, of Rosedale, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 for a verdict following his trial on an assault charge. Chief Judge Brian C. McLean found him not guilty of the offence.

Nowlan was charged by RCMP with assault on a female minor in connection with an incident between April 1 and April 30, 2023, in Coldstream. He pleaded not guilty.

Nowlan also appeared in provincial court for monitoring about another trial on firearm charges. The matter was postponed at the crown’s request due to a disclosure issue. Nowlan returns to court on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. after the crown further reviews the file.

Nowlan was charged with possession of a firearm without a licence (a rifle), improper storage of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with the serial number altered, concerning an incident on July 27, 2023, at Rosedale. He pleaded not guilty.

Arrested and released with conditions

Dynielle Allison Demerchant, 28, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on Nov. 4 after being arrested on a warrant. She was released with conditions and returns to court on Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Demerchant was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon (a switchblade) in connection with an incident on Dec. 22, 2022, in Woodstock. She entered her not-guilty plea at a court appearance on March 12.

On Nov. 1, her defence counsel told the court a resolution was pending on the trial matter but Demerchant did not appear to deal with the charges.

Demerchant was also charged with identity theft (cards) and possession of methamphetamine concerning a separate incident on May 2 in Woodstock. She returns to court for plea on those charges on Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Held for bail hearing

Travis Terrance McDougall, 32, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on Nov. 4 and was remanded to jail. He returns to court in custody for a bail hearing on Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Woodstock Police charged McDougall with two counts of uttering threats and obstructing police in connection with a stand-off on the weekend when an individual barricaded himself inside a residence.

Juniper man released with conditions

Brian Spike of Juniper appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 4 for a bail hearing on two charges laid by RCMP. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m.

Spike was charged with pointing a firearm at another man and assault with a weapon (a shotgun) stemming from an incident on Oct. 31 at Juniper. As part of his release order, he was ordered to follow a curfew and have no firearms in his possession.

Trial date set on threat charges

Christopher Anthony Clark, 48, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for his trial on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Clark was charged with two counts of uttering threats against two women, stemming from an incident on April 16 in Woodstock. He pleaded not guilty at a court appearance on Nov. 5.

Aroostook man to stand trial

Rodney Stevens of Aroostook will appear for trial in provincial court on Aug. 8, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP.

Stevens was charged with uttering threats in connection with an incident on July 5 at Aroostook. He entered his not-guilty plea at a court appearance on Nov. 5. A monitoring date for his trial was also set for May 27, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Stevens was released on an undertaking until his next court appearance.

Neqotkuk woman charged

Alesha Rossi of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to answer three charges laid by RCMP.

Rossi was charged with assault involving a male victim, assault with a weapon (a chair), and uttering threats concerning an incident on Oct. 12 at Neqotkuk. She made her first court appearance on Nov. 5, when the matter was adjourned to the new date. Rossi was released on an undertaking until her next court appearance.

Sentencing set for Woodstock man

Shane Lee Dickison, 36, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on Nov. 4 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was set for Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Dickison pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon (a knife) involving another man and uttering threats for an incident on April 23 in Lower Woodstock. The crown withdrew another charge of breaching a peace bond.

He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 21 for his trial and changed his plea to guilty on other charges. His sentencing date was set for Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

RCMP charged Dickison with breaching his curfew on June 5 at Dorrington Hill. He was also charged by Woodstock Police with assault with a weapon (a knife) involving another man, uttering threats, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, and resisting arrest in connection with an incident on May 6 in Lower Woodstock.  He pleaded guilty on all counts.

Perth-Andover man awaits sentencing

Ian Stewart Bishop, 41, of Perth-Andover, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 5 and pleaded guilty to two charges on summary conviction. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 3 at 1:30 p.m.

Bishop pleaded guilty to breaking into the River Valley Civic Centre on April 1 and stealing tools valued at $4,000. He remains in custody.

He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 30 and changed his plea to guilty on other charges laid by RCMP.  His sentencing date was set for Dec. 5 at 11:30 a.m.

Bishop pleaded guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house and theft of tools on March 30. He was denied bail when he appeared in court in custody by video on April 25. Bishop has a prior criminal record.

Bairdsville man facing four charges

Jayson Lee O’Hagan, 21, of Bairdsville, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to answer four charges laid by RCMP.

O’Hagan was charged with dangerous driving and breaching a release order on Sept. 15 near Bairdsville, and possession of a stolen licence plate and breaching a release order on Sept. 26 in Perth-Andover. He appeared in court on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel.

The conditions of his release order prohibited O’Hagan from driving or leaving a residence in Ontario.

Neqotkuk man facing multiple charges

Jerico Perley, 21, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear in provincial court on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. to answer eight charges laid by RCMP.

Perley was charged with assault with a weapon involving a female victim, two counts of uttering threats, possession of a prohibited weapon (a guard dog baton/taser) without a licence, possession of a firearm (shotgun) without a licence, assault, assault by choking, and improper storage of a firearm following an incident on Sept. 15 at Neqotkuk.

Perley appeared in court for plea on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel. He appeared in court in custody in September and was released with conditions.

Facing new charges

Logan Estey, 20, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 to answer new charges laid by RCMP. He returns to court for plea on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Estey was charged with assault, assault with a weapon (a car), and dangerous driving following an incident on July 24 at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).

He also appeared in provincial court on Oct.22 to answer four other charges. Those matters were adjourned for plea until Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Woodstock Police charged Estey with two counts of breaching a no-contact order concerning an incident on Aug. 3 in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no further contact with the complainant. He appeared in provincial court in custody on Aug. 8 and was released with conditions.

He was also charged with mischief causing property damage to a window and possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing an offence in connection with an incident on Jan. 1 in Upper Woodstock. The court heard Estey also has other charges in Fredericton.

Nortondale woman to be sentenced

Kayley Ann Briand, 23, of Nortondale, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 and pleaded guilty to an impaired driving charge. Her sentencing date was set for Feb. 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Woodstock Police charged Briand in connection with an incident on May 17 in Woodstock.

Pair jointly charged with offence

Avory Saige Vatali, 22, and Alexander Timothy Gordon Jansen, 22, both of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to answer a charge laid by Woodstock Police.

Vatali and Jansen were jointly charged with failing to provide the necessities of life to another person concerning a recent incident in Woodstock. They appeared in court on Nov. 5 when the matter was set over for plea to the new date at the request of their defence counsel.

Moved to alternative measures

Philip McCarthy, 39, of Grand Falls, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 for monitoring about his trial on an assault charge.

RCMP charged McCarthy with assault involving a female victim concerning an incident on July 28 at Riley Brook. He pleaded not guilty and a trial date was set for Sept. 10, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, the court heard the matter was being moved to the alternative measures program with the consent of the crown.

McCarthy has until Feb. 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. to complete the program’s requirements to have the charge withdrawn.

Decision reserved after trial

Sara Ann Broad, 41, of Moose Mountain, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 5 after pleading not guilty to an assault charge. After a half day of testimony, Judge Lyne Raymond reserved her decision until Jan. 21, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP charged Broad with assault involving a female minor in connection with an incident between Sept. 27 and Dec. 27, 2022.

Broad will also appear for trial on other charges on Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m. She pleaded not guilty to assault on a male victim and breach of an undertaking concerning an incident on June 28, 2023, in Johnville.

Plea delayed, accused in rehab

Douglas Thomas Defazio, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Nov. 5 from a rehab facility in Moncton. He was scheduled to enter a plea on several charges, but the matter was adjourned until Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Defazio was released with conditions following a bail hearing on Aug. 22 and was ordered to enter rehab. He was arrested by Woodstock Police shortly after a stolen boat crashed on the rocks of the Meduxnekeag River on July 10, where the vessel was abandoned and the suspect swam to shore.

Defazio faces two counts of break and entering a dwelling house, mischief causing property damage, and breach of probation in connection with break-ins at two different residences on Grant Street and Houlton Street on July 10.

More pending charges include possession of stolen property, theft and breach of recognizance. The crown withdrew another separate charge of uttering threats.

Returning for plea

Brandon Levesque, 26, of Gordonsville, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 for plea on multiple charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Levesque appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on Oct. 18 after being arrested on new charges. He was released with conditions, including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Levesque was charged by RCMP with breaching his release order (curfew), assault involving a female victim, assault by choking and assaulting a police officer in connection with an incident on Oct. 11 in Gordonsville.

RCMP also charged him with breaking into a dwelling house and mischief causing property damage to a door on July 30 in Plaster Rock and assault with a weapon (a rock) involving a female victim on July 28 in Plaster Rock.

Hartland man awaiting plea

Braeden Paul Thornton, 28, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 to answer charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Thornton appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 16 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Thornton was arrested by RCMP on Thanksgiving weekend on charges of breaching a peace bond, uttering threats, assault, assault by choking, theft, and breaching an undertaking. He was remanded to await his bail hearing.

Trial date set

Kyle Carter, 30, of Moncton, formerly of Jacksontown, will appear for trial in provincial court on Aug. 8, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP.

RCMP charged Carter with break, enter and theft at a dwelling house on Route 103 in Wakefield on Aug. 21, 2019. He pleaded not guilty at a court appearance on Nov. 5. A monitoring date for his trial was set for May 27, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Carlingford woman returning for plea

Kortney Boyer, 32, of Carlingford, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 to answer an assault charge. The matter was adjourned for plea until Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m. to allow her more time to secure legal counsel.

RCMP charged Boyer with assaulting a female victim stemming from an incident on March 18 at Bairdsville. She was released on an undertaking until her next court appearance.

Two files diverted to alternative measures

Lisa McGratten, 38, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 to answer a charge of breaching an undertaking. The matter was diverted to the alternative measures program. 

McGratten also appeared in provincial court on Oct. 8 to answer a separate mischief charge. That matter was also diverted to the alternative measures program.

McGratten was charged by RCMP with mischief causing property damage to a garage door concerning an incident on April 6 near Rowena. She has until Jan. 14, 2025, to complete the program requirements to have the charges withdrawn.

Neqotkuk man to stand trial

Bennett Sacobie of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) will appear in provincial court on Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. to set a date for his trial on several charges laid by RCMP.

Sacobie was charged with breach of an undertaking, uttering threats, assault, assault causing bodily harm, and unlawful confinement in connection with an incident on Aug. 14 at Neqotkuk. He pleaded not guilty at a court appearance on Nov. 5.

Glassville man awaiting plea

Adam Luc Joseph Thibodeau of Glassville appeared in provincial court on Nov. 5 for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned until Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

Thibodeau was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and a stolen licence plate in connection with an incident on April 9 in Woodstock. 

Centreville woman charged

Amber Dawn Shaw, 35, of Centreville, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to answer three charges laid by RCMP.

Shaw was charged with obstructing police, fraudulent impersonation and breach of probation following an incident on June 22 in Upper Woodstock. She made her first court appearance on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of her defence counsel.

Plea delayed for Neqotkuk man

Thomas Perley of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) will appear in provincial court on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by RCMP.

Perley was charged with refusing a breathalyzer and leaving the scene of an accident stemming from an incident on March 29 at Neqotkuk. He appeared in court on Nov. 5 when the matter was adjourned until the new date to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

Accused in hospital

Ronald Johnston, 68, of Lincoln, was scheduled to appear for sentencing in provincial court on Nov. 5 after changing his plea to guilty on an impaired driving charge.

RCMP charged Johnston following an incident on July 16, 2021, in Perth-Andover. The court heard he was hospitalized and could not attend his sentencing on Tuesday. A warrant will be held on file until his next court appearance.

Warrant issued

The court issued an arrest warrant for Justin Ryan Shea, 36, of Woodstock, after he failed to appear in provincial court on Nov. 5 to answer two drug trafficking charges.

Shea is also facing separate charges related to a break-in at a residence in Woodstock. He appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing in October and was released with conditions.

He was charged by Woodstock Police with break, enter and theft at a dwelling house on Creighton Street on Sept. 26 and an additional charge of breaching an undertaking (curfew). He is slated to return to court for plea on those charges on Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Shea was also charged with mischief, causing property damage, breaking, entering, and theft at the East Coast Truck Wash for an incident on March 17 in Lower Woodstock. He will also appear in provincial court on Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m. for plea.

Warrant on file

A warrant is being held on file for Calvin Joseph Nicholas, 53, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), after he failed to appear in provincial court to answer charges on Nov. 5.

The court heard he presented himself to the Perth-Andover RCMP detachment because he did not have transportation to Woodstock. A new date for his court appearance will have to be set.

Nicholas was charged by RCMP with possession of methamphetamine, possession of hydromorphone, and driving while prohibited following a recent incident at Neqotkuk. He appeared in provincial court in custody on Sept. 9 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear and was released with conditions.
