Released from custody until sentencing
Bradley Tyler Whitney, 42, of Newbridge, appeared in provincial court in custody on Dec. 4 and was released with conditions until his sentencing in the New Year. The court heard he was entering a rehab facility in Moncton and would remain there under house arrest.
On Nov. 27, Whitney changed his plea to guilty on multiple charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Jan. 15 at 1:30 p.m.
Whitney appeared in court on Aug. 26 and was denied bail. He pleaded guilty to forging a doctor’s prescription for Dilaudid on July 30 in Woodstock, guilty to causing property damage to a dwelling house on Slipp Street, guilty to uttering threats, and breach of probation on July 14.
He also pleaded guilty to a separate theft charge under $5,000 for an incident on Dec. 17, 2023, at Madawaska First Nation. The crown withdrew two other charges of fraud and using counterfeit money (a $100 American bill) on Jan. 1 in Newbridge.
Whitney pleaded not guilty to other charges of assaulting a female victim, uttering threats and breach of probation on Aug. 24 in Woodstock, and assault with a weapon (a torch) involving a female victim between July 1-28 in Woodstock. His trial date was set for Jan. 22, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. He had a limited prior criminal record.
Guilty verdict in altercation with police
Tina Noella Albert, 53, of Upper Kintore, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 4 for a verdict following her trial on three charges laid by RCMP.
Judge Sebastian Michaud found her guilty of uttering threats and guilty of assaulting a police officer but not guilty of resisting arrest. Her sentencing date was set for March 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Albert was charged following an incident on Oct. 4, 2022, at the Ultramar gas station in Carlingford when she was involved in an altercation with a female police officer.
During the trial, the court heard Albert cursed at the officer, threatened to knock her teeth out, and pushed the door of a police cruiser against the officer’s foot. Video surveillance from the gas station was entered into evidence by the crown.
Albert told the court she intends to appeal her case once her sentencing is completed.
In custody awaiting trial
Curtis Brent Hatheway, 43, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Dec. 6 to set new dates for his trial on charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial dates were rescheduled for Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. and Jan. 20, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Hatheway appeared in custody by video on Nov. 21 for a bail hearing. He waived his bail and was remanded to jail. He was arrested on a warrant.
Hatheway pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of breach of probation and two counts of breaching a peace bond between June 30 and July 8 and on Sept. 13 in Woodstock; breach of an undertaking, breach of probation, breach of a peace bond and criminal harassment between Sept. 14 and Sept.16 in Woodstock. The charges relate to a no-contact order involving a female complainant. He has a prior criminal record.
On Dec. 5, he was also charged with breach of probation and breach of a peace bond for incidents between May 24 and Sept. 13 in Woodstock. He returns to court in custody for plea on Dec. 12 at 9:30 a.m.
Facing assault charge
Jodi Bull, 60, of Bulls Creek, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. to answer an assault charge.
RCMP charged Bull with assaulting another man in connection with an incident on June 2 at Bulls Creek. He made his first court appearance on Dec. 3, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Fredericton man has three charges
Ryan Patrick Brown, 33, of Fredericton, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on three charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Brown was charged with assault involving a female victim, assault by choking and mischief by interfering with property (a phone) stemming from an incident on Nov. 17 in Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on Dec. 3, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Decision reserved after trial
Matthew Eric Hughes, 28, of Perth-Andover, was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 4 for a verdict following his trial on a sex charge laid by RCMP. Judge Sebastian Michaud adjourned his decision until Dec. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
RCMP charged Hughes with touching a minor for a sexual purpose and invitation to touching for a sexual purpose, stemming from an incident on Oct. 20, 2015, near Perth-Andover. He pleaded not guilty. The second charge was withdrawn at his court appearance on Oct. 2.
Not-guilty of assault
Robert Corey Goodine, 35, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 5 via teleconference for a decision following his trial on two assault charges. Judge Karen Lee found him not guilty on both counts.
Goodine appeared in provincial court in custody in January for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was charged by RCMP with assault with a weapon (a set of keys) involving a female victim between Jan. 1, 2022, and Feb. 28, 2022, at Perth-Andover; and assault by choking between Jan. 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021, at Perth-Andover. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.
During the trial, the court heard the case involved an alleged domestic dispute. In closing submissions, Defence Counsel L.A. Henry told the court Goodine denied the assaults and said he was never in an intimate relationship with the complainant.
Decision adjourned in sexual assault
Maurice Joseph Rossignol, 68, of Woodstock, was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 5 for a verdict after his trial for sexual assault. Judge Sebastian Michaud adjourned his decision until Jan. 15, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Rossignol appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 23 after pleading not guilty to sexual assault. Woodstock Police charged him in connection with an incident on Aug. 30, 2023, in Woodstock.
During the trial, the court heard Rossignol allegedly grabbed a woman by the breast and genitals when he came to her apartment to request repayment of a $45 loan. Rossignol denied the allegations and testified he left immediately after she refused to pay him. The woman told the court she screamed when he grabbed her and then kicked him out.
Hartland man to stand trial
Dylan Rideout, 25, of Hartland, will appear for trial in provincial court on June 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to three charges laid by RCMP.
Rideout was charged with uttering threats involving a female victim, possession of a firearm without a licence and careless use of a firearm (a shotgun) concerning an incident on Aug. 9 at Cloverdale. His new trial date was set at a court appearance on Dec. 2.
Released with conditions
Braeden Paul Thornton, 28, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on Dec. 4. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.
Thornton was charged with breaching his curfew. He returns to court for plea on Dec. 17 at 9: 30 a.m.
He also appeared in provincial court on Nov. 26 to answer other charges laid by RCMP. That matter was adjourned for plea until Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.
Thornton was arrested by RCMP on Thanksgiving weekend on charges of breaching a peace bond, uttering threats, assault, assault by choking, theft, and breaching an undertaking. He was remanded to await his bail hearing and then released.
Arthurette man to stand trial
Nicholas William Sutthery, 40, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Dec. 5 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial dates were set for March 17 and April 19, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Sutthery was denied bail on Oct. 3. He was charged by RCMP with three counts of uttering threats at Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) on Sept. 25, assault with a weapon (ramming a vehicle), dangerous driving, break and enter at a dwelling house, and possession of a stolen ATV on May 27 in Perth Andover, and breach of an undertaking on July 16.
During an earlier court appearance, Sutthery was also charged with possessing a stolen truck in connection with an incident between Jan. 1 and 11 at Carlingford. He had a dated prior criminal record.
Trial dates reset for April
Joseph Martin, 37, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Dec. 5 for monitoring about his trial. New trial dates were set for April 25 and April 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Martin appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on July 8 and was he remanded to jail. RCMP charged him with indictable assault for an incident on July 4 at Perth Andover. He was arrested and taken into custody on July 5.
RCMP also charged Martin with possessing a stolen ATV and breach of probation. He failed to appear in court to answer the charges on June 4, and a warrant was issued. Martin turned himself in at the courthouse on June 12 and was arrested by sheriffs. He was later released with conditions but was re-arrested.
Trial date pending
Marc Morin, 24, of Aroostook, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 5 to set a trial date on charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until Jan. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
He appeared in court in custody on Dec. 4 and was released with condition after being arrested for breaching his curfew. He will enter a plea to that charge at his court appearance on Jan. 7.
Morin pleaded not guilty to possessing a stolen snowmobile and obstructing a police officer in connection with an incident on March 6, 2023, in Carlingford.
He was also charged with breaching a release order by failing to appear for trial on July 15. Morin appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 3 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was arrested on a warrant on Oct. 1 for failing to appear in court.
Adjourned to new date
Brian Keith Reynolds, 45, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court on Dec. 5 to answer several charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until Jan. 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. to allow him time to secure new legal counsel.
RCMP charged him with uttering threats against a female victim, breach of probation, and driving while suspended, stemming from an incident on Oct. 8, 2023, in Bloomfield. He pleaded not guilty and returns to court on Jan. 7 to set a trial date.
Reynolds was also charged with two counts of resisting arrest on Nov. 1, 2023, and Nov. 27, 2023, at Wotstak. On Sept. 17, he faced two new charges of assault and assault with a weapon concerning another incident on Aug. 4 at Wotstak. He returns for plea on those charges on Jan. 7.
Reynolds appeared in provincial court in custody in July and was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.
Trial and sentencing set
Collin Francis Bear, 35, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 5 for monitoring about his trial on an assault charge. His defence counsel confirmed he has legal counsel to proceed to trial on Aug. 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Bear also appeared in provincial court on Nov. 21 and changed his plea to guilty on another assault charge laid by RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Feb. 26, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Bear was charged with assault, two counts of assault with a weapon (an axe and a mirror) involving a female victim, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence (an axe) in connection with an incident on Aug. 26, 2023, at Neqotkuk. He appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing and was released with conditions.
On Nov. 21, he pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a weapon (an axe and a mirror) and the remaining charges were withdrawn by the crown.
Perth-Andover man to stand trial
Lane Leo Lewis, 23, of Perth-Andover, will appear for trial in provincial court on July 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to four charges laid by RCMP. On Dec. 6, his trial date was rescheduled to the July date at the request of his defence counsel.
Lewis was charged with assault while carrying a weapon (a machete and two BB guns), assault, and two counts of possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence in connection with an incident on Oct. 4, 2023, near Perth-Andover. The charges involve a female victim. He was held in custody and then released with conditions.
Two charged in Perth-Andover incident
Dana Newell, 38, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 6 and pleaded not guilty to several charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for Oct. 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Newell was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm (a sawed-off shotgun), careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a stolen ATV, and possession of a stolen BB gun concerning an incident on May 27 in Perth-Andover.
Michael McKee, 18, of Woodstock, was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm (a sawed-off shotgun) stemming from the same incident in Perth-Andover. He appeared in court on Dec. 3 and pleaded not guilty to the charge. His trial date was set for Oct. 3, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Change of plea expected
James Earle Dow, 47, of Dow Settlement, was scheduled to appear for trial in provincial court on Dec. 6 after pleading not guilty to two charges laid by RCMP. The crown anticipated a change of plea on Friday afternoon.
Dow was charged with driving while prohibited and refusing a breathalyzer demand in connection with an incident on May 14, 2023, at Dow Settlement.
Couple facing trafficking charges
A Neqotkuk couple will return to provincial court in custody on Dec. 10 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on multiple charges laid by RCMP.
Nicholas Paul, 47, and his wife, Jennifer Louise Paul, 45, were arrested at Tobique First Nation.
Jennifer Paul was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property (cash), possession of a prohibited firearm (a sawed-off shotgun) without a licence, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm for an incident on Sept. 25 at Neqotkuk.
Nicholas Paul was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property (cash) for an incident on Oct. 23 at Neqotkuk.
At the time of their arrest, they were each charged by RCMP with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking for an incident on Oct. 23 at Neqotkuk.
Jennifer Paul was also charged with breach of a release order (no weapons), possession of a stolen licence plate, and possession of a prohibited weapon (a collapsible baton) without a licence on Oct. 23 at Neqotkuk.
Nicholas Paul was also charged with breach of a release order and driving while prohibited on Sept. 22-24 at Neqotkuk, breach of a release order (no drugs), possession of ammunition while prohibited, and possession of a stolen licence plate on Oct. 23 at Neqotkuk.
The couple appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 16 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including wearing electronic monitoring devices attached to their ankles. They were rearrested a week later.
They both admitted to breaching their house arrest on Sept. 26 and were remanded.
On Nov. 26, Nicholas Paul was sentenced to 60 days in jail when he appeared in court in custody by video. He was also placed on 12 months of probation and ordered to seek counselling for addiction.
Paul pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle and two counts of possession of a stolen licence plate in connection with an incident on June 5, 2023, at Perth-Andover.
