Peel man in custody on 20 charges
Zachery Don Brooks, 21, of Peel, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 to face 20 charges laid by the RCMP. He was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on June 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Brooks was charged with five counts of assault involving a female victim, four counts of assault by choking, three counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon (a phone cord), assault while threatening to use a weapon (a knife), possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, mischief causing damage to a cell phone, and two counts of breaching a release order (no contact).
The charges were laid in connection with a series of incidents on Nov. 24, 2024, Feb. 12, Feb. 17, May 28, June 9, June 10 and June 11, in Lower Brighton; on June 3 and June 5 in Hartland, and on Feb. 19 in Woodstock. He was arrested and taken into custody on June 12.
Brooks appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 20 and was released with conditions. He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
In custody awaiting plea
Allan Charles McLaughlin, 63, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 for plea on weapons charges related to a domestic dispute. The matter was adjourned until June 26 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to consult legal counsel.
McLaughlin was denied bail on May 29. He was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (a nine-millimetre handgun), pointing a firearm at a female victim, assault with a weapon (a handgun), and careless use of a firearm in connection with an incident on April 13 in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants. He was also charged with breaching a no-contact order on April 15 in Canterbury.
Woodstock Police attended a residence on April 13 to answer a call about a domestic dispute. During the course of their investigation, they determined that a male suspect had produced a loaded handgun and pointed it at a female victim during the altercation.
Following this incident, police executed a search warrant at the same residence, which resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition.
Sentencing set on multiple charges
Yves Levesque, 36, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 and changed his plea to guilty on multiple charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for July 24 at 1:30 p.m.
Levesque pleaded guilty to assaulting a female victim on Aug. 14, 2024, at New Denmark; guilty to assault on the same female between Oct. 1 and Oct. 27, 2024, at McLaughlin, Victoria County; guilty to uttering threats and assault by choking on Oct. 28, 2024, at Perth-Andover; guilty to uttering threats, and assault by choking on Oct. 31, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to assault with a weapon (a helmet), uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm, and break and enter at a dwelling house on Dec. 20, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to break and enter and theft, and mischief causing property damage to a shed on Dec. 21, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to assaulting the same female victim on Nov. 22, 2024, in Grand Falls, and breach of probation on Oct. 22, 2024, in Grand Falls. Nine other charges were withdrawn by the crown.
Arrested on warrant
Ashley Dawn Giberson, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on June 12 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear for trial in March. She returns to court in custody on June 17 at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for a bail hearing.
Giberson appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 27 and was released with conditions. Woodstock Police charged her with breach of a release order by failing to follow a curfew on Feb. 15 and shoplifting at the Canadian Tire in Woodstock on Feb. 3. She was also charged with two counts of breaching a release order by failing to follow a curfew on Sept. 1 and Nov. 9, 2023, in Woodstock.
Released with ankle bracelet
Daniel Jr. Constandinides, 19, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He returns to court for plea on June 26 at 9:30 a.m.
RCMP charged Constandinides with theft of a Canada Post vehicle, theft of mail, and theft of a firearm on March 27 at Perth-Andover. He was also charged with two counts of assault with a weapon (a knife) and committing mischief causing property damage to a door for another incident on March 15.
Constandinides was also charged with breaching an undertaking and obstructing police in an incident on March 23 in Perth-Andover.
Plea adjourned
Mitchell McKenzie, 39, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 for plea on charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until July 25 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to consult legal counsel.
McKenzie was denied bail and remanded to jail on March 27. RCMP arrested and charged him with breaching a release order (no alcohol or drugs) and committing mischief concerning an incident on March 21 at Wotstak.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on March 17 following a five-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital. Judge Karen Lee found McKenzie fit to stand trial and released him with conditions, but he returned to custody. His medical report indicated he struggles with alcohol and heavy drug use.
McKenzie appeared in court in custody on March 10 after being arrested on a warrant. RCMP charged him with assaulting another man with a weapon (a wooden pole) following an incident on July 24, 2024, at Wotstak.
He appeared in provincial court in custody on Nov. 25, 2024, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, but failed to return to court for plea. He missed three court dates before being arrested on a warrant.
Awaiting sentence
Shawn Sullivan, 38, of Plaster Rock, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on June 9 and changed his plea to guilty on several charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for June 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Sullivan pleaded guilty to assaulting another man and breach of probation in connection with an incident on Nov. 23, 2024, at Plaster Rock and Gladwyn. He has a prior criminal record.
Sullivan appeared in provincial court in custody by video on March 20 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was later arrested on a theft charge in Fredericton and denied bail.
In Woodstock, Sullivan was charged by RCMP with breach of a release order (no-contact) and breach of probation, stemming from an incident on March 14 at Gladwyn.
He was also breaching his release order and breach of probation concerning an incident on Feb. 20 in Waterville and theft from the Twin Rivers Paper Company in Plaster Rock on Jan. 12.
Held for bail hearing
Takoda Louis Lee Christian, 19, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 for a bail hearing. His legal counsel was unavailable, so the bail hearing was adjourned to June 16 at 9:30 a.m.
Christian appeared in court in custody on May 29 after being arrested for breaching his release order. He was released with conditions on May 1 with an ankle bracelet but was taken back into custody.
He was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of a release order (house arrest) on April 16 at Wotstak and breach of a no-contact order on April 14 in Woodstock.
He was also charged with assault and unlawful confinement between June 29, 2024, and July 4, 2024, at Wotstak; assault and two counts of assault by choking in Fredericton between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19; and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19 at Wotstak.
He was also charged with assaulting another man with a weapon (a knife), uttering threats and mischief causing property damage to a window in connection with an incident on April 8 in Lansdowne.
Christian also faces charges laid by Woodstock Police following an assault outside the Royal Canadian Legion on Nov. 14, 2024. Police were called to the scene, and a man was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Christian was charged with indictable aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
He also appeared in provincial court on April 15 and pleaded not guilty to another indictable assault charge laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was set for April 29, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Christian pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault concerning an incident on March 25 at the Ayr Motor Centre. Woodstock. Police said a 16-year-old victim suffered significant injuries in the incident and was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital for treatment.
Found fit to stand trial
Mackenzie O’Keefe, 28, of Tobique Narrows, will appear in provincial court in custody by video on July 10 at 1:30 p.m. for plea on charges laid by RCMP. His bail hearing on June 12 was cancelled.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on May 29 for a fitness hearing following a 30-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital. He was found fit to stand trial in accordance with his medical report.
O’Keefe was charged with mischief causing property damage to a windshield on Oct. 26, 2023, at Tobique Narrows, and possession of a stolen vehicle and driving while suspended on Dec. 30, 2023, at Quaker Brook, Victoria County. He told the court he wanted to have a psychiatric evaluation, so a hearing date was set.
O’Keefe appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 4 after being arrested on warrants. He was released with conditions but was later remanded for a 10-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital on other separate charges in Edmundston.
Bairdsville man to be sentenced
Regis Bowmaster, 31, of Bairdsville, appeared for trial in provincial court on June 12 and changed his plea to guilty on numerous charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Bowmaster pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle on Jan. 4, 2024, at Bairdsville; guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon (a sawed-off shotgun), improper storage of a firearm, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a gun on May 27, 2024, at Perth Andover; guilty to possession of a stolen snowmobile on April 2, 2023, at Wicklow; and guilty to breaching a release order (house arrest) on Oct. 23, 2024, at Pembroke. Five other charges were withdrawn by the crown.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on Nov. 4, 2024, and was released with conditions.
Limestone man faces two charges
Nicholas Andrew Scott, 39, of Limestone, will appear in provincial court on July 8 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on three charges laid by Woodstock Police. He appeared in court on June 9 for monitoring.
Scott was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving and mischief causing property damage to a door following an incident on Dec. 2, 2024, at NBCC Woodstock.
Bail hearing adjourned
Daniel Jr. Francis, 32, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 12 for a bail hearing. At the request of his defence counsel, the hearing was adjourned to June 26 at 9:30 a.m.
Francis was charged by RCMP with two counts of assault with a weapon (a knife) involving two male victims, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and possession of ammunition while prohibited, concerning an incident on May 5 at Neqotkuk. His plea was also adjourned to his next court appearance.
Change of plea on two charges
Charles Wylie Reinhardt, 37, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court on June 9 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing was set for Sept. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Reinhardt was charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, refusing a breathalyzer demand and resisting arrest following an incident on July 30, 2023, in Woodstock. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and the breathalyzer charge. The crown withdrew the remaining two charges.
Trial adjourned to new date
Jace Maddox Anderson, 20, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on June 9 for monitoring about his trial on charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was rescheduled for June 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Anderson was charged with uttering threats and breach of a no-contact order following an incident on July 1, 2024, in Woodstock; assault and uttering threats in a Woodstock apartment on May 25, 2023, and failing to appear in court on Nov. 1, 2023. He pleaded not guilty. Another monitoring date was set for June 19 at 1:15 p.m.
