Woodstock Provincial Court: Plea dates set for two involved in police chase

Two awaiting plea following police chase at Lindsay

Nicholas Hamilton, 31, of Richmond Corner, and Kaylee Melinda Smith, 25, of Clearview, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 15 for their bail hearings on charges related to a police chase in Lindsay.

Hamilton was denied bail and returns to court in custody for plea on Feb. 5 at 9:30 a.m. He was charged by the RCMP with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it, possession of a firearm without a licence (a shotgun and rifle), transporting firearms in a careless manner, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm. The charges were laid following a police chase on Jan. 13, during which a spike belt was used to stop a speeding half-ton truck.

Smith was released from custody with conditions, including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle. She returns to court for plea on Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m. She was charged with possession of a firearm without a licence, transporting firearms in a careless manner, being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm, and illegal transport of ammunition.

Smith will also appear in provincial court on Jan. 27 at 9:30 a. m. to set a date for her sentencing on two other charges. Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of identity theft for an incident on March 19, 2025, in Woodstock.

She was also charged with flight from police and dangerous driving on July 10, 2025, in Hartland. She pleaded not guilty, and her trial date was set for Dec. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Smith was also charged with fleeing police on Oct. 20, 2025, in Woodstock and will enter a plea when she returns to court on Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m.

192 days or time served

Braeden Paul Thornton, 28, of Lakeville, was sentenced to 192 days in jail or time served when he appeared for sentencing in provincial court on Jan. 15. He was also placed on probation for 18 months.

Thornton pleaded guilty to breaching his release order (no-contact) on March 15, 2025, in Woodstock; guilty to assaulting a female victim, uttering threats, theft of a cell phone, and breaching a peace bond on July 14, 2024, in Woodstock; and guilty to breaching his release order (ankle bracelet) on Dec. 1, 2024, in Wilmot. He had a prior criminal record.

Conditional sentence order, probation

Caleb Wavel Crain, 42, of Piercemont, was handed a nine-month conditional sentence order and 12 months of probation when he appeared in provincial court on Jan. 15 on charges related to a domestic dispute.

Judge Rose Campbell also ordered him to seek counselling and have no contact with the complainant. The first six months of his conditional sentence order will be spent under house arrest, followed by three months of curfew. He will be permitted to attend work during his house arrest. He had a prior criminal record.

Crain was charged by the RCMP with assault causing bodily harm to a female victim, unlawful confinement, and uttering threats following an incident on Dec. 10, 2022, near Florenceville-Bristol. He pleaded guilty to the lesser included offence of common assault and guilty to uttering threats. The Crown withdrew the confinement charge.

Crain will return to court for plea on Feb. 3 at 9:30 a.m. in connection with other charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was charged with transporting a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a firearm without a licence (a semi-automatic rifle), and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm, following an incident on June 19, 2025, in Woodstock.

Guilty of impaired driving

Michael Feaver, 44, of Gordonsville, appeared for sentencing in provincial court on Jan. 16 after pleading guilty to an impaired driving charge.

Feaver was charged by the RCMP following an incident on May 31, 2025, in Fielding. His sentencing was adjourned until Jan. 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Bail hearing adjourned

Clay Hargrove, 30, of Beechwood, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 14 for a bail hearing after being arrested on a warrant. The bail hearing was adjourned until Jan. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his lawyer.

Hargrove pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm to another man and possession of a stolen ATV for an incident on Aug. 27, 2024, at Upper Kent, but failed to return for sentencing. He also faces charges of resisting arrest and identity fraud.

On Jan. 13, Hargrove was charged with failing to appear in court and with a probation violation on Jan. 8. A new sentencing date will be set after his bail hearing.

In custody awaiting sentence

Jacob Jinson, 26, of Somerville, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 8 and pleaded guilty to three charges. His sentencing date was set for Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Jinson pleaded guilty to breaching a no-contact order between Dec. 19-22, 2025, at Somerville; failing to appear in court on Aug. 6, 2024; and uttering threats on April 10, 2024, in Somerville. Another breach charge was withdrawn by the Crown.

Jinson appeared in court in custody via video for a bail hearing on Dec. 31, 2025, after being arrested on a warrant. He was denied bail and remanded to jail. He has a prior criminal record.

Conditional discharge, probation

Jace Maddox Anderson, 20, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), received a conditional discharge and 18 months of probation when he appeared in provincial court for sentencing on Jan. 14.

Anderson pleaded guilty to uttering threats on July 1, 2024, and breaching a no-contact order on April 12, 2024, in Woodstock. Another breach charge was withdrawn by the Crown. The charges were laid by Woodstock Police.

Benton man remanded to await trial

Edward Hayes, Jr., 30, of Benton, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 14 for a monitoring hearing. He confirmed he has legal counsel to proceed to trial on March 9 and March 11-13 at 9:30 a.m.

Hayes was denied bail on Nov. 6, 2025. He pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving, flight from police, driving while prohibited, uttering threats, and breach of a release order (ankle bracelet) on July 25, 2025, in Woodstock; two counts of breach of a release order, flight from police, driving while prohibited, possession of a stolen ATV, two counts of assaulting police, mischief causing damage to a police vehicle in Benton; flight from police and dangerous driving on July 25, 2025, at Teeds Mill; and criminal harassment through text messages on June 22, 2025, at Bairdsville.

He also pleaded not guilty to obstructing police following an incident on Aug. 15, 2025, near Meductic when a male suspect jumped into Eel River and was captured and taken into custody.

Hayes also pleaded not guilty to assault with a weapon (a knife), uttering threats and theft of a motor vehicle on Aug. 14, 2025, in Benton and theft of gas on Aug. 14, 2025, in Debec. Hayes has a lengthy prior criminal record.

Break-in on Searle Street

Two men remain in custody on charges related to a break-in on Searle Street in Woodstock on Nov. 24, 2025.

Bastian Kitchener Bradbury of Fredericton and Michael Ronald McKee of Woodstock were each charged with breaking into a woodworking shop, possession of stolen tools, possession of a stolen vehicle (a Mazda CX5), possession of break-in tools, and prowling at night. Bradbury also faces a charge of wearing a mask while committing an offence.

Bradbury and McKee both waived their bail until later and return to court in custody for plea on Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m. The court heard they are also in custody on other charges in Fredericton.

Trial adjourned

Derrick Goodine, 67, of Oxbow, Victoria County, will appear in provincial court on July 19 at 9:30 a.m. for trial on two sets of charges. He appeared in court on Jan. 14 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Goodine was charged by the RCMP with prowling at night and breach of probation concerning an incident on Dec. 29, 2024, at Florenceville-Bristol. He pleaded not guilty.

He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 6, 2025, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was charged by the RCMP with making a visual recording of a person while they were nude without their consent.  He pleaded not guilty.
