Woodstock Provincial Court: Plea expected in attempted murder case

Woman charged with attempted murder expected to enter plea today

Destiny Dawn Innis, 23, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on a charge of attempted murder.

Woodstock Police charged Innis following a violent altercation at a downtown residence on Oct. 20, when a 74-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed in her home.

Following a bail hearing on Nov. 6, Judge Henrik Tonning released Innis under house arrest at a residence at Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation). She was required to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle and must have no contact with the victim. She had no prior criminal record.

The victim was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital and later transferred to the Saint John Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Woodstock Police, the Woodstock Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were called to her home on Houlton Street around 9 p.m.

Two charged in Charles Street assault

A second man has been charged in connection with a serious assault near the Knights of Columbus Hall on Charles Street on Dec. 7.

Colton Kyle Weeks, 29, of Rosedale, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 15 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions on $2,500 bail bond and returns to court for plea on Jan. 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Woodstock Police charged Weeks with pointing a firearm at another person, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and careless use of a firearm. He has no prior criminal record.

A co-accused, Jacob David Murray Munn, 31, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 11 for a bail hearing on an assault charge. His bail hearing was adjourned until Dec. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Woodstock Police charged Munn with aggravated assault on another man by wounding him in connection with the same Charles Street incident. The charge was laid after a man was transported to the hospital in Fredericton for treatment of serious injuries.

510 days in jail or time served

James Blair Hovey, 29, of Perth Andover, was sentenced to 510 days in jail or time served when he appeared in provincial court in custody on Dec. 15. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges laid by the RCMP.

Hovey had been in jail on remand since last February. He was released from custody on Monday, Dec. 15, after serving his time. Chief Judge Brian C. McLean also handed him 12 months of probation and a one-year prohibition on driving. He must also seek counselling for drug addiction.

Hovey apologized to the court for his crimes and explained that, due to meth addiction, he was “unable to process the consequences” of his actions or fathom the “negative impact” of his lifestyle. He said he had been sober for the past year while in custody and considered his incarceration to be a “life-saving experience.”

Hovey pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen licence plate and theft of a motor vehicle on Aug. 20, 2024, charges transferred from Miramichi.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting another man and theft of keys on Nov. 27, 2024, in New Denmark. Another theft-of-tools charge was withdrawn.

In addition, he pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen ATV, breach of probation and flight from police on March 30, 2024, at Tobique Narrows; guilty to assault, taking a vehicle without consent and breaching his curfew on Oct. 25, 2024, at Perth Andover; guilty to flight from police, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and breaching his curfew on Nov. 27, 2024, at Plaster Rock; and guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle and breach of probation on Jan. 9 at Carlingford. Four other charges were withdrawn.

Released to enter rehab

Joshua Alexander Russell, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 16 for a bail hearing. He was released on conditions, including wearing an ankle electronic monitoring device. He was also ordered to enter a rehab facility in Saint John beginning in the New Year.

Woodstock Police charged Russell with breaching his release order stemming from an incident between Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 in Woodstock. He returns to court for plea on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

He also appeared in provincial court on Nov. 18 and pleaded not guilty to six other charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Jan. 13-14, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Russell appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Sept. 26 for another bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was charged with two counts of breaking into a dwelling house, breach of an emergency intervention order, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, and driving while suspended in connection with an incident on Sept. 21 in Woodstock.

A pre-trial conference will be held on June 24, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. The court heard that Russell will also return to court on Aug. 31, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for trial on another standalone matter.

Fredericton man arrested

Laurence Robert Pitre of Fredericton appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 15 for a bail hearing on five charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on Jan. 27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Pitre was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, committing mischief and two counts of obstructing police following an incident on Dec. 10 in Woodstock.

Waived bail until later

Christian Mario Albert, 39, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 16 to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police. He waived his bail until later and returns to court in custody for plea on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Albert appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Nov. 26 for a fitness hearing after completing a 30-day mental health assessment at Restigouche hospital. He was found fit to stand trial.

He appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 29 and was charged with attempting to steal a motor vehicle and breach of probation for an incident on Oct. 28 in Woodstock.

Not guilty after trial

Brandi Cowper, 46, of Limestone, appeared for trial in provincial court on Dec. 15 after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by the RCMP. Chief Judge Brian C. McLean issued a directed verdict of not guilty due to a lack of evidence from the Crown.

Cowper was charged with obstructing the course of justice in connection with an incident on Aug. 10, 2024, in Jackson Falls.

As the trial began, a police officer testified about investigating a violent assault in Jackson Falls and a subsequent complaint made to police about a phone call and text messages allegedly sent to dissuade a key witness in the investigation. However, the witness was unable to give evidence for the trial on Monday, and the case was dismissed.

Denied bail on charges

Ryan Troy O’Donnell, 28, of Johnville, was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 15. He returns to court in custody for plea on four charges on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

O’Donnell was arrested on Dec. 5 and charged by the RCMP with theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, theft, and mischief. He has a lengthy prior criminal record.

Released with ankle bracelet

Nathan Aaron Sewell, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on custody via video on Dec. 15 for a bail hearing after being arrested by the RCMP.  He was released with conditions, including a curfew and the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Sewell was charged with breaching an undertaking (not to drive any vehicle) and indictable possession of a stolen ATV on Dec. 7 at Wilmot. He returns to court for plea on Jan. 27, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Arrested on new charges

Patrick Harris, 40, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Dec. 15 for a bail hearing on two new charges laid by the RCMP. He was released on conditions, including wearing an ankle electronic monitoring device.

Harris was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and altering a serial number on a vehicle for an incident on Dec. 12. He returns to court for plea on Jan. 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Harris and Tamara Hamilton, 30, of Woodstock, will also appear in provincial court on Jan. 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for the continuation of their preliminary hearing.

They pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a shooting in Mainstream in February. The pair elected to be tried before a judge alone at the Court of King’s Bench. The first part of their preliminary hearing took place in provincial court earlier this month.

Harris appeared in court in custody via video on March 19 for his bail hearing and was released on conditions, including wearing an ankle electronic monitoring device.

Hamilton was released on Feb. 20 with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle. She was placed under house arrest with a curfew at a residence in Woodstock.

Harris was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited (a sawed-off shotgun), discharging a firearm at a place while reckless as to whether a person was present; possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition without a licence, wearing a mask with intent to commit an offence; uttering threats against another man, breach of probation, pointing a firearm at another person, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and being an occupant of a vehicle (a half ton truck) knowing it carried a firearm.

Hamilton was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited (a sawed-off shotgun), possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, discharging a firearm at a place while reckless as to whether a person was present, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition without a licence, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm.

The pair was arrested by the RCMP inside a garage in Pembroke after a blue half-ton truck was spotted leaving the scene of the shooting in Mainstream on Feb. 17.

Refusing a breathalyzer

Joseph Leo Richard, 60, of Belleville, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 16 for a monitoring hearing about his upcoming trial. Another monitoring hearing was set for Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to confirm he has legal counsel to proceed to trial.

The RCMP charged Richard with refusing a breathalyzer demand in connection with an incident on Dec. 24, 2024, in Pembroke. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for March 4, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Woodstock man awaiting trial

Patrick Rattray, 30, of Woodstock, will appear for trial in provincial court on March 26-27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police. A monitoring hearing was held on Dec. 15, and a pre-trial conference was scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Rattray was charged with assault causing bodily harm involving a female victim, assault by choking, uttering threats and failing to provide the necessities of life in connection with incidents between Jan. 1 and Feb. 9, 2024, in Woodstock.

He was also charged by Woodstock Police with breaching a peace bond, uttering threats, assault, and mischief in connection with an incident on Oct. 9, 2024, in Woodstock.

Plea postponed

Cameron James Clark, 25, of Mapledale, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 16 to answer charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

Clark appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 6 for a bail hearing after being arrested for breaching his release order (ankle bracelet). He was released with conditions, including house arrest and wearing another electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He was charged by RCMP with breach of probation, resisting arrest, uttering threats, stalking a female victim, breaking into at a dwelling house, assault with a weapon, assaulting another man, and mischief causing property damage to a door on Sept. 17 at Mapledale; stalking a female victim, dangerous driving and breach of probation on Sept. 19 in Mapledale; and breaching a release order on Oct. 21 in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants.

Impaired driving by drugs

Sherry Murphy, 59, of Plaster Rock, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an impaired driving charge.

The RCMP charged Murphy with impaired driving by drugs stemming from an incident on Nov. 18, 2024, in Perth-Andover. She appeared in court on Dec. 16 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Trial on three charges

Stephen Mohan, 44, of St. Stephen, appeared in provincial court on Dec. 16 and pleaded not guilty to three charges, but guilty to one other charge of resisting arrest. His trial date was set for Jan. 11, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Mohan appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 30 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was charged with possession of a weapon (a knife), dangerous to the public peace, uttering threats, and robbery of a motor vehicle using violence, concerning an incident on Oct. 17 at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).

He was also charged with resisting arrest on Oct. 17 at Canterbury.  His sentencing on that charge will be dealt with after his trial.

Woodstock woman to enter plea

Georgia Wilson, 20, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a plea on three charges laid by the RCMP.

Wilson was charged with resisting arrest on July 22 at Wilmot, breaching an undertaking (no contact), and resisting arrest on July 26 at Summerfield. She was scheduled to enter a plea on Dec. 16, but the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Adjourned for plea

Kaylee Melinda Smith of Centreville will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges.

Smith was charged with flight from police and dangerous driving on July 10 in Hartland. She was scheduled to answer the charges on Dec. 16 when the matter was adjourned at the request of her defence counsel.

At an earlier court appearance on March 19 in Woodstock, Smith pleaded not guilty to two counts of identity theft, and her trial was set for Jan. 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Agreed to peace bond

William (Billy) Harding, 35, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody on Dec. 15 and agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on a weapon charge.

Harding pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a male victim on May 11 at Perth Andover. The Crown withdrew one other weapons charge. The peace bond will result in the withdrawal of the assault charge.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video for sentencing on Dec. 4 after pleading guilty to several other charges laid by the RCMP. He had 120 days left to serve once his remand time was applied.

Request for further disclosure

Joseph Foster, 35, of Upper Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a plea on three charges laid by the RCMP. He was scheduled to enter his plea on Dec. 16, but the matter was adjourned at his lawyer’s request for further disclosure from the Crown.

Foster was charged with assault involving a female victim, assault by choking, and uttering threats stemming from an incident on Sept. 23 in Upper Woodstock. He appeared in court on Dec. 2 and was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.

In custody awaiting trial

Jonathon Daniel Stockford, 36, of Hartland, will appear for trial in provincial court in custody on March 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to charges laid by the RCMP.

The trial was scheduled for Dec. 15 but was adjourned to the new date to review video evidence that his defence counsel would review for a possible alibi. The court heard he was recently sentenced to four years in prison on other charges in Fredericton.

Stockford was charged with breaching his release order following an incident on Feb. 18 at Bedell, as well as dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended, and breach of probation arising from another incident on Aug. 21, 2024, in Woodstock.

Stockford was also charged with possession of a stolen side-by-side in connection with an incident on July 20 in Waterville. He will return to court in custody for plea in Woodstock on Jan. 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Returning for plea

Nicholas Robert McHatten, 29, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Dec. 22 at 9:30 a.m. to answer an impaired driving charge.

McHatten was charged by the Woodstock Police in connection with an incident on May 27 in Woodstock. He was scheduled for plea on Dec. 16 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel.

Facing two charges

Makayla Phillips, 22, of Hartland, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

Phillips was charged with uttering threats and mischief, causing property damage to a house, for an incident on Jan. 24 at Richmond Settlement. On Dec. 16, the court heard that a resolution is being sought with the crown to move the matter to the alternative measures program

More time to consult lawyer

Joseph Nicholas of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) appeared in provincial court on Dec. 16 to answer three charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned to Jan. 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to consult a lawyer.

Nicholas appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Nov. 17 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was charged by RCMP with two counts of assault and committing mischief for an incident at Neqotkuk.

Greenfield man charged

William Miller, 54, of Greenfield, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

Miller was charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited concerning an incident on May 6 in Bairdsville. He was scheduled to enter a plea on Dec. 16 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Nabbed for impaired

Chad Parker, 34, of Fredericton, will appear in provincial court on Jan. 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an impaired driving charge.

Parker was charged by Woodstock Police following an incident on April 25 in Woodstock. He was scheduled to enter a plea on Dec. 16 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
