Trial delayed on drug trafficking charges
Keith Reid, 33, of Fredericton, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody by video on June 3 on drug trafficking charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until July 18 at 9:30 a.m., when a new date for his trial will be set.
The court heard the delay was due to a new disclosure that his defence counsel must review. Reid was also awaiting a detention review hearing at the Court of King’s Bench. He has been in jail since being denied bail in October.
Reid was charged by RCMP with possession of methamphetamine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm (a shotgun) without a licence, and improper storage of a firearm in connection with an incident on Oct. 3, 2023, in Hartland. He also faces two counts of breaching a release order, including other matters in Fredericton. He pleaded not guilty on all counts.
A press release from the RCMP said the charges were laid after a vehicle was stopped in Woodstock, and the driver was arrested at the scene. A search of the individual led to the seizure of a quantity of crystal meth. A 19-year-old female passenger was also found in possession of meth pills and crystal meth and was released from custody until her court appearance.
Police also executed a search warrant at a residence on Main Street in Hartland, where cocaine, crystal meth, meth pills, a loaded shotgun, shotgun shells, weapons and drug paraphernalia were found as part of the investigation.
Sentencing set on fraud charge
Edwin Norman Pardy, 64, of Carlow, appeared in provincial court on June 4 and pleaded guilty to an indictable fraud charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing was set for Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
Pardy was charged with defrauding Service Canada for an amount exceeding $5,000 concerning incidents between July 27, 2017, and Nov. 26, 2021, at Woodstock. The court heard the crown would be seeking a custodial sentence.
Wostak man facing new charges
Greg McCormick, 35, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 4 to answer three new charges laid by RCMP. He returns to court for plea on June 25 at 9:30 a.m.
McCormick was charged with two counts of mischief causing property damage (a window and a vehicle) and indictable arson involving a vehicle in connection with an incident on July 16, 2023, at Wotstak.
He appeared in provincial court on April 23 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 2, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
McCormick was charged with assaulting another man while carrying a weapon (a knife) and uttering threats following an incident on Feb. 15 at Wostak. He was arrested and later released on a release order.
Released and returning for plea on new charges
Shane Lee Dickison, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on June 4 to answer charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until June 25 at 9:30 a.m.
Dickison was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon (a knife) involving another man, two counts of uttering threats, breach of a peace bond, and resisting arrest in connection with incidents on April 23 and May 6 in Lower Woodstock.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on May 16 for a bail hearing. After his 35-day jail sentence was served, an order was made to release him from custody with conditions on May 30.
He was released with an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle and must follow a curfew while residing on Hodgdon Road. He must also abstain from drugs and have no contact with the complainants.
Sentencing set on two charges
Aaron Barclay Moulton, 39, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court on June 3 and pleaded guilty to two charges laid by RCMP. His sentencing was set for Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
Moulton was charged with assault, committing mischief causing property damage, possession of a prohibited weapon (a taser), and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace following an incident on April 23, 2023, at Neqotkuk.
He pleaded guilty to mischief for damaging the Tobique Youth Centre and guilty to possession of the taser. The crown withdrew the other weapons charge.
Moulton maintained his not-guilty plea on the assault charge and will have his trial when he returns to court on Sept. 3.
Denied bail on new charges
Nicholas Charles Paul, 46, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court in custody on June 3 for a bail hearing on new charges and sentencing on other charges laid by RCMP.
Paul was denied bail and returns to court for plea on June 18 at 11 a.m. He has been in custody since his arrest in early May. He was charged with breaching a release order by failing to follow the conditions of electronic monitoring (ankle bracelet) following an incident on May 1 at Neqotkuk.
Woodstock Police also charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle and breach of probation concerning an incident in Woodstock on June 29, 2023.
Paul was sentenced to 12 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to a series of other charges laid by RCMP. The first six months will be full house arrest followed by six months with a curfew. However, he will not be released to begin his house arrest until the newer charges are resolved.
Paul pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing police, and breach of an undertaking on Dec. 3, 2021, in Grand Falls and Neqotkuk; guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, breach of probation and possession of a stolen credit card for an incident on Sept. 12, 2023, in Hartland; guilty to theft from a store in Carlingford on Aug. 30, 2023; guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of suspended driving, and two counts of flight from police for incidents on Aug. 8 and Aug. 11, 2023, in Perth-Andover; and guilty to failing to attend court on Nov. 21, 2023.
He was fined $1,200 for driving while suspended and was prohibited from driving for one year.
Paul was also charged with flight from police, and break, enter and theft at a storage shed following an incident on Sept. 4, 2022, at Perth-Andover. He changed his plea to guilty and is still awaiting sentencing for those offences. Paul had a limited prior criminal record.
Defence Counsel Alex Carleton told the court Paul served with the military in the past and suffers from drug addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder. He recommended his client seek addiction and mental health counselling in his community after his release.
Woodstock man facing two charges
Justin Shea of Woodstock will appear in provincial court on July 2 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by RCMP.
Shea was charged with mischief causing property damage and break, enter and theft at the East Coast Truck Wash for an incident on March 17 in Lower Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on June 4.
Trial rescheduled in mischief case
Eric Buckingham, 59, and Susan Buckingham, 58, of Teeds Mills, appeared in provincial court on June 4 to get a new trial date after pleading not guilty to a mischief charge. They return to court for trial on Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
The RCMP charged them with mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle and other personal belongings, in connection with an incident on March 14, 2023, at Teeds Mills. The court heard the case involved a neighbour dispute. The Buckinghams were ordered to have no contact with the complainant.
The crown requested a new trial date due to court scheduling issues. Both accused told the court they did not have legal counsel for their trial yet.
Facing impaired driving charge
Amit Mann, 40, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on June 4 to set a new date for his trial on an impaired driving charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Mann was charged in connection with an incident on Feb. 11, 2023, in Woodstock. The trial was adjourned until Oct. 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Trial set for Woodstock woman
McKenzie Doreen Sawyer, 26, of Woodstock, will appear for trial in provincial court on May 14, 2025, after pleading not guilty to two charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her not-guilty pleas were entered via teleconference by her defence counsel.
Sawyer was charged with assault involving a male victim between June 1, 2023, and July 31, 2023, and uttering threats against the same person between Aug. 1, 2023, and April 16, 2024, in Woodstock.
Newbridge woman to stand trial
Tracy Taylor, 41, of Newbridge, will appear for trial in provincial court on June 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to four charges laid by RCMP.
Taylor appeared in provincial court in custody on April 2 and was released with conditions. She was charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm at another person, possession of a firearm without a licence (a shotgun and rifle) and uttering threats against a male victim in connection with an incident between March 3 and March 31 in Newbridge. She entered her not-guilty plea at a court appearance on June 4.
Arthurette man to enter plea
Nicholas William Sutthery, 40, of Arthurette, will appear in provincial court for plea on June 25 at 9:30 a.m. on a charge of having stolen property.
Sutthery was charged by RCMP with possession of a stolen truck in connection with an incident between Jan. 1-11 at Carlingford. He appeared in court on June 4 when the matter was adjourned to the new date to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.
Failed to appear
A warrant is being held on file for Steven Derek Trecartin, 46, of East Brighton, after he failed to appear in provincial court on June 4 to answer a threat charge.
Woodstock Police charged Trecartin with uttering threats against a female victim following an incident on Nov. 1, 2023, in Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on May 7, when the matter was adjourned to a new date.
Perth-Andover man awaiting trial date
Joshua Sebey, 25, of Perth-Andover, will appear in provincial court on June 6 at 9:30 a.m. to set a date for his trial on an impaired driving charge. His defence counsel entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf at a court appearance on June 4.
RCMP charged Sebey in relation to an incident on Sept. 3, 2023, near Aroostook.
Newfoundland man pleads not guilty
Daniel Ralph Arch, 49, of Northern Arm, Newfoundland, appeared in provincial court on June 4 and pleaded not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for June 18, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Arch was charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm following an accident on March 27 at Dorrington Hill near Canterbury. He was released on an undertaking until his next court appearance.
Trial set for Clearview man
Kyle Laurie Williams, 35, of Clearview, appeared in provincial court on June 4 for monitoring about his trial. He told the court he still did not have legal counsel. Another monitoring date was set for July 2 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to get a lawyer.
Williams is scheduled to appear for trial in provincial court on Oct. 7 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. He was charged with transmitting intimate images without consent concerning an incident on June 4, 2023, at Centreville. Williams entered his not-guilty plea during a court appearance on Jan. 9.
Trial adjourned to new date
James Earle Dow, 47, of Dow Settlement, will appear for trial in provincial court on Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading not guilty to two charges laid by RCMP.
He was scheduled for trial on June 5, but the matter was adjourned to the new date with the consent of both the crown and defence counsel. Dow was charged with driving while prohibited and refusing a breathalyzer demand in connection with an incident on May 14, 2023, at Dow Settlement.
Returning for plea
Billy Jean Kinney, 27, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on July 2 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Kinney was charged with breach of probation by failing to report to the probation office as ordered by the court on Dec. 6, 2022. She made her first court appearance on June 4.
Bail hearing set for Johnville man
Ryan Troy O’Donnell, 27, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 4 and requested a bail hearing after spending several months in remand. His bail hearing will be held on June 12 at 1:30 p.m.
O’Donnell is also awaiting a plea on two new charges: possession of stolen property (cheques) on Dec. 16, 2023, in Beechwood and mischief causing property damage on Feb. 15. The RCMP laid the charges.
On April 11, he was in custody by video to answer a sex charge laid by RCMP. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for June 26 at 9:30 a.m. He was charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident in Beechwood between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2021.
O’Donnell appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 23 for a bail hearing and waived his bail until later. He was charged by RCMP with breach of a release order on Feb. 15 and held in custody.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 24 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle, but was brought back into custody.
O’Donnell was charged by RCMP with assault involving a female victim, uttering threats, and breach of probation concerning an incident on Jan. 25 near Johnville.
A date for a hearing about an alleged breach of a conditional sentence order was scheduled for April 5.
O’Donnell received a nine-month conditional sentence on Aug. 1, 2023, after pleading guilty to indictable assault, theft, breach of a release order, two counts of breach of probation, uttering threats and assault on a female victim. He spent five months in remand before being released on a conditional sentence. O’Donnell has a prior criminal record.
Conditional discharge, probation
McKay Thomas, 38, of St. Stephen, appeared for sentencing in provincial court on May 30 after pleading guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. He received a conditional discharge and 12 months of probation.
Thomas appeared in provincial court in custody on April 4 and was released with conditions. He was charged by RCMP with possession of a stolen vehicle for the purpose of trafficking (a 1999 Jeep Wrangler) following an incident on Aug. 3, 2022, at Perth-Andover.
Failing to report whereabouts
Todd Clay Dufour, 34, of Perth-Andover, will appear in provincial court on July 2 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Dufour was charged with failing to report his whereabouts to the national sex offender registry on Aug. 1, 2023. He made his first court appearance on June 4, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
